Good morning friends! I just wanted to take a moment and share with you what information I have on the future travel to Mexico and the Caribbean. As of right now, Mexico, Jamaica and some other islands are expected to open their borders and resorts on June 1. Even though the borders may be open, not all resorts will be open. Please remember, that these expected border opening dates can change at anytime, so be prepared for possible schedule changes. Also, please be aware of the temporary travel and resort protocols as follows:
New travel protocols will make the check-in and security process much longer. At this current time, if flying from a smaller airport, it is currently recommended that you arrive at the airport a minimum of 3 hours before your flight departs, and if flying from a major airport and you have a non-stop flight, a minimum of 4 hours. Until the international flights start up, there is honestly no way to know how long the check-in and security process will take. As we learn more about this process, we will be sharing this with you. Currently we are aware that the airlines are sanitizing seats and surfaces between each flight. Your temperature will be taken with a nontouching, thermometer, and if it is high you will be screened further and could be denied boarding. A facemask will be required at all airports and on all airlines. There won't be any food or beverage services on the flight, but most airlines will allow you carry on your own. TSA is allowing you to carry up to 12oz of hand sanitizer on the flight with you.
Most resorts are setting up temporary protocols as well. All employees will be wearing face masks. No buffet, instead food will either be set up for ala carte dining or there will be servers dishing out the food for you. Disposable paper menus will be used in ala carte restaurants. Room service will be contactless, with the food left at your door. Pool and beach chairs will be required to be at least 6 feet apart from people you aren't traveling with. Most pool bars will be closed, instead they will have pool and beach waiter service. Most likely bartenders will not be allowed to fill/refill personal mugs. Limited number of people will be allowed in restaurants and lounges at a time, as they must allow for physical distancing. This shouldn't be any issue as most resorts will not likely be anywhere near capacity for a while. Poolside games, and activities will be modified to allow for physical distancing. Any shows and activities will also be modified to allow for physical distancing. Off property tours at this time are an unknown, but trust that owner/ operators will do "the right thing" to protect their guests.
If you can travel this summer, we encourage you to do so. Pricing is very good for the summer months. There will be less crowds at the resort and it will be a more relaxing atmosphere. Plus, you are not only supporting our local travel industry/economy but the economy of the destination you are visiting. Remember, everyone at the resort/destination that you will come in contact with have most likely been without a job since the middle of March. With this in mind, if you can afford it, please tip the resort employees a little heavier than normal :)
Please remember these protocols are only temporary, and we all hope and pray that life will return to "normal" soon.
