You are invited to join me and the classic Cunard Queen Victoria on this magical voyage of celestial wonderment. My husband and I have been waiting for years to find the right way to experience the Aurora Borealis in person. Finally, decision made and we wish you to come along too! The intense excursion companies were too expensive without the right balance for us to explore Norway and the Northern Lights as well as be comfortable, entertained and well fed. With over 180 years of experience, I know we will be in good hands with Cunard Cruises. PLUS....
This voyage is timed perfectly! October is the start of the 11 year peak for seeing the glowing skies. 2023-26 is expected to have Northern Lights reach their maximum glory! Being out at sea allows the captain to maneuver the ship to the predicted area where the lights will dance. Their regular host expert, John Maclean may conduct Cunard Insight talks and commentary. Overnight stays at Tromsø and Narvik in Norway situates us above the Arctic Circle and within the Auroral Oval. Too much nature? No worries, there will be other things to do as well. BONUS: Guess what? During our 2nd night, we may be able to see the Partial Lunar Eclipse from the ship, in middle of the North Sea! How cool is that!? Visualize yourself sipping a hot toddy on your private balcony as you let nature put on a dazzling show. Nice extra is to arrive a few days early to enjoy London before the cruise. Reach out to me, let's talk and plan this out together! Nadia Folic,

The charming Haugesund, Norway and the splendid Viking Heritage Museum. We learned a great deal from this museum. Worth the visit!
Last few sample Northern Loghts photos from middle of night November 5-6, 2023 enroute to Haugesund, Norway.
Moment of a lifetime! THIS is why we came! Bright, vi I'd overhead coronas! The intense red has not been seen in over 20 years! We are so blessed to have this experience. It's exhilarating!
We were there! Momentous Northern Lights show, best in over 20 years! Astronomist Ian Ridpath confirmed he could not remember such deep red colors before this evening display, November 5, 2023. Announcement was made shipwide from the Bridge to alert all guests and crew to go out and look. The Captain of Cunard's Queen Victoria, turned off exterior lighting which greatly helped us experience this event. Thank you Captain Karl Shepherd! Nadia Folic Kc Caldwell
Show stopping photos to share with you, as promised! This is off the back of the Cunard Queen Victoria as the ship sails between Narvik and Haugesund, Norway. The evening of November 5, 2023. Wish you were here with us!
Midnight- 1 AM on the Cunard Queen Victoria, sailing between Tromso and Narvik, Norway. The Captain made announcement into all cabins to alert everyone that Northern Lights van seen, even though ship is moving....
Tomorrow even more and more spectacular shots! Stay tuned.
A 3:30 pm sunset at sea, north of the Arctic Circle.
Here are what I was believing would be the best photos to share. HINT: They are not! I plan on sharing SPECTACULAR visuals with you tomorrow! Consider these as appetizers. Special side note: these 5 shots were taken from our moving bus! No tripod or special arrangements. Simply my cell phone on 'night' setting flat up against a dirty bus window while it was driving back to the ship!
The best is yet to come!!! Oh wow, have I got FANTASTIC photos to share with you in the next few days!!!!
The sun sent us a coronal mass ejection that arrived today. A solar flare.
Oh WOW!
It was a bit chilly up beyond the Arctic Cicle in Northern Norway!
A few of my Northern Lights photos taken on our first stop in Tromso, Norway. Previous post was from our 2nd stop more inland.
Many factors come together to get this opportunity.
No rain.
Clear skies
Darkness
Sun matter reaching Earth
You being at the right spot
You being at the right time!
And recognizing it is happening with a camera ready to snap away!!!
Ian Ridpath was one of two "Cunard Insight" special guest speakers on our voyage. He focused on astrological topics such as: Northern Lights, Moons, Asteroids, Comets, Planets, Constellations.... each featured in their own 50 minute presentation. Here I share key points from his fantastic and educational Northern Lights presentation. Ian was also accessible to talk to onboard and on deck.
Tromso, Norway Northern Lights, November 1st, 2023! Our tour took us to 2 stops. One of them was 100 kilometers inland with lovely lake and mountain backdrop. The key was to avoid bright lights. Very important to bundle up in layers with a wool base being the best. The bus will be warm so remove outer layers, then you'll be prepared for the frigid outdoors! It was -7C for us. Also... GLOVES! Taking them off for even 5 minutes created pain to my fingers lasting 15 minutes! Practice taking photos remotely... tripods are useful.
Preparing you to be prepared for the sky to look cloudy... but take photos to reveals the splendid colors! Unless they are indeed clouds....
Also important to wear proper footware that grip the ice & snow.
Note that some photos I took reveal pink hues as well as the green. That has to do with the different distance of the molecular collisions.
Tromso, Norway Polar Museum and Arctic Cathedral. Yes, we are above tge Arctic Circle!!! The two black & white church depictions show how the original presentation was... with bright sunlight blinding the parishioners leading them to attend services with sunglasses! The stainedglass was the adjustment.
Tromso, Norway. Arial views from top of cable car ride. First snowfall of season yesterday. Weather was excellent.
In the meantime, sharing a few other lovely photos of our journey, so far! This is enroute to Alesund, Norway and from top of Sugartopp Mountain, Alesund.
You might be checking in now to see what is happening on our cruise, right?!
Today we landed at Tromso, the Northenmost port of call for this voyage. A beautiful day! Partly cloudy / partly sunny. No rain and no wind. Temperature around 32 degrees F.
We leave tonight on a shore excursion to "chase the Northern Lights"! Actually, we are in search of clear skies. There is a very good chance of this, although the Arctic weather can be a gamble. If good fortune falls our way, I'll try to share a few photos.
The thrill of looking up at a naked sky to see the stars. And a light show! You can too while sailing Cunard's Queen Victoria Oct-Nov 2023. (Weather permitting, of course!) The time is now to reserve your stateroom. Full payment due. Sail round trip Southampton, England.
Do you sometimes get star struck? Take some time to stroll down Cunard's memory lane and see some of the famous people, from THE Charles Dickens to Meryl Streep who have sailed Cunard Cruises. Check out some of the special features they have to offer too!
Cunard's modern, yet classic, flagship Queen Mary 2 has similarly hosted many dignitaries and politicians over the years; people who have shaped the world.
Space still available at DISCOUNTED FARES and LOTS of On Board Credit! Limited time for all offers to combine. Take advantage of opportunity. Deposit is refundable prior to June 29th, 2023..... if interested, NOW is the time! Reach out to me for personalized quotes. [email protected]

Iceland is NOT Greenland!
Also, we did not go into details about all that Norway has to offer... but know that you can visit the Arctic Cathedral or the Polaria Arctic Center; Possibly whale watching, Visit Viking Village, ancient sites, perhaps hiking, fly over Pulpit Rock, learn about the Ofoten Railway and more! Even though above the Arctic Circle....
Did you know?
Narvik’s milder climate made it an ice-free port all year round!

MACKEREL: A small fish with big benefits.
The Atlantic mackerel is caught during the autumn when their fat content is at its highest: around 30 per cent, compared to 3 per cent at its lowest. But don’t worry - this is the kind of fat that is good for your heart, brain and overall health. Loaded with omega-3, antioxidants and protein.
It will boost your metabolism and improve your health. A bite of the Atlantic mackerel can stave off illness and help you live a long and healthy life. Studies have shown omega-3 acids to protect you from a number of different diseases. It is even found to play a structural role in the brain and retina of the eyes. Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers are particularly recommended to get loads of it, as it has positive effects on the future health and intelligence of their child. So not only does it make you live a longer and better life — the mackerel could make your kids smarter as well.
The Atlantic mackerel contains a compound called coenzyme. This is an antioxidant that has the neat ability of powering the energy centre of cells, causing your body to produce more energy and burn more fat.

Why is a replica of the Statue of Liberty located in the village Visnes, Norway 15 minutes drive from Haugesund?
This village mine, Vigsnes, supplied much of the original copper used in the authentic Statue of Liberty in the USA!

Norwegian Elkhound is the national dog of Norway.
People used Elkhounds to pull sleds, guard home and family, do mountain rescue and hunt big game such as moose and bear as well as some smaller quarry.
