During my latest trip to Disneyland I was able to experience the Lunar New Year Celebrations at California Adventure! There were beautiful decorations, fun parades, unique character opportunities, special merchandise, and of course tasty treats!

It’s easy to assume that the special celebrations at Disneyland are simply scaled down versions of the offerings at Walt Disney World, but nothing could be further from the truth! These celebrations are unique to these parks and are their own unique experiences!

During my Christmas trip to New York City I got to check something special off my bucket list - dinner in The Dining Room at Gramercy Tavern ! I can own that I’m a picky eater so the idea of a tasting menu made me a little nervous, but the whole experience was incredible. Since there was two of us we got to taste almost everything (we both passed on the raw scallop) and included the wine pairing which was an incredible addition to the evening. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend it!

My background is in theology, so I am pretty much always going to find a cool church. Sainte-Chapelle has a small footprint but it is an incredible work of art! If you’re a fan of stained glass like I am, it’s utterly captivating. Since the sun doesn’t set until well after visiting hours have ended, the colors are pretty much always showing out! It is also very close to Notre Dame, which is still heavily under construction and not open to the public.

Never underestimate the power of kindness and appreciation!

I know I have shared before about doing something nice for your flight attendants. Some people will get a big bag of candy for everyone to share. I will often do $5 Starbucks gift cards, especially for the little flights from Mobile to Atlanta. But for this trip I decided I wanted to do something a little bit different. This time I decided to include thank you notes.

I found these cute little cards at Walmart. I think I paid $5 for a pack of 12 but you could probably find something cheaper elsewhere, I was just scrambling at the last minute because plan A didn’t come through. There wasn’t much room so I kept it simple. They were all a little different but it was all variations on a theme - “Thank you for what you do. I appreciate you.”

When I got on the plane I asked one of the flight attendants how many of them were working that flight. It was more than I had estimated so I was glad I packed extras. I pulled them out and gave them to one of them and just said there should be enough for everyone. Immediately I was told thank you by several crew members. Pretty soon another came back to tell me thank you and brought me a little notebook and keychain. Cool. About five minutes later another comes back with an amenity kit from business class! Over and over through the flight I was thanked again and again for my kindness. Finally, just before we landed, one of the flight attendants who had already thanked me several times said “In 25 years I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a hand written thank you”.

Two chocolates and two sentences. It’s such a small thing that can make such a big difference! I think I’m going to start carrying some of these with me all the time. I imagine there are a lot more people in the world who could benefit from a little bit of personal appreciation!
