It’s a little tradition, and it doesn’t matter much in the grand scheme of things, but one of my favorite things in the world is having people who hunt with us sign a decoy.

I started doing this about 5-6 years ago. Back then, it was on my boat, all public water. The decoy was a gift from a talented friend, . I hated to deface it, but also loved the idea of having some sort of talisman to remember the season when I glanced at my shelf.

But, over time, we change - now most of my hunting is done on private land, with the capacity to introduce way more people to waterfowl hunting, and more importantly, to what I love about Florida.

This year, we had 3 decoys. One was an old bluebill from ; the other two were purchased from . The idea there was we wanted the landowner and the rancher to also have this memento, a tiny thank you for allowing us to enjoy their dirt.

By my unofficial count, 106 first time duck hunters signed this years decoy. That’s 106 people who’ve never bought a waterfowl stamp until this season.

108 women have signed the decoy. I love that. We’ve hosted several all women’s hunts this season, with another one ahead of us this weekend.

88 kids have signed the decoy. What’s better than that?

I look at these things, turn them over in my hands, and I remember - Blaise’s banded mottled in between torrential rains. DC’s first pintail. Myriaha’s first teal.

I remember dad’s and daughters laughing over piles of bluewings, and moms and sons thrilled with a single duck. I remember a family hunt with a grandfather in the December of his lifetime hunting alongside his great granddaughter, too small to carry a gun.

College roommates, coworkers, bosses with their crews, a group of sorority sisters . . . Lawmakers, and legislators, and agency personnel from around the state and country; chefs and NGO leaders and teachers and professors and veterans and and and . . .

As Duck Season draws into the home stretch, we often spend our late mornings chasing Florida’s ultimate upland bird, the Wilson’s Snipe.

Fast wing shooting that’ll humble even the best marksman, we are offering a limited number of snipe hunts through the end of January.

$150/gun, DM to reserve.

You will not find a better snipe hunt than what we have in South Florida!

Before Christmas, we all collaborated together to pull off our first ever women’s camp.

Bringing together women from across the country to show them the best Florida has to offer had some weather complications, but it didn’t stop us from making the best of it.

We talked farming. We talked ranching. We talked hunting and water and conservation. These ladies were serious about everything we chased, from ducks to snipe to hogs to gators.

Our hope from this is simple: that Florida not get lost in the shuffle of commodities. There are people here who love this place and these wild things, and our hope is that our guests saw that through our eyes, and maybe took a sliver of that back home with them.

Thanks to all who participated; to for the use of their guns and gear; to for keeping the mood right whether it was raining sideways or raining straight up and down; for the blind bags and hats; for sealing the deal; for keeping us fed and to and for covering everything else!

And, finally, to for putting all the pieces together!

Looking forward to making this an annual tradition, and already excited for next year!

More. Than. Ducks.

Long after we’re scattered back to our homes around the state; after we’ve eaten our harvest, or dropped off a bird at the taxidermist . . . After all of that is done, we’ll always have a morning of moments.

We’re losing water, but still have birds AND room from December 16th on.

This is the duck season we live for, and we’re just getting started.

From the beginning, one of our goals has always been to offer the best opportunities for all level of waterfowlers.
Don't misunderstand us here, watching some seasoned duck hunters fill their limits with a veteran labrador retriever at their side makes our day. But these pics: these are the ones that make us most proud to work our tails off and do it all again the next weekend.
Whether you've been doing it for decades or it's your first time putting on waders, we've got dates available and we'll be happy to have you.

The sun has set on early teal, and we’ve got our minds on November now.
Those nine short days flew by. We owe a big thanks to all our clients for choosing us and believing in , and an even bigger thanks to all of our friends and volunteers who helped keep things moving smoothly when our friends from and were in town. Y’all know who you are and we couldn’t do it without your support.
Our work continues as we march toward big duck season, and we can’t wait to see y’all then!
