Here’s a look at BAGT's first event of the year: our Sustainable Makers Tour with San Francisco State University! 🌎

On January 29th, we hosted international students from SF State's STEM Exploration Program for an afternoon, exploring how local entrepreneurs are shaping a more eco-conscious future while contributing to the region’s growing cultural and economic landscape.

💇🏻‍♀️ At Matter of Trust's Eco-Industrial Hub, we visited their Hair Matters model factory and learned about how their hair mats (🤯) are being used to restore land and water after oil spills!

🛴 We also visited PEV Works' workshop and warehouse, where we got a firsthand look at the exciting ways people are repairing and modifying personal electric vehicles.

A big, BIG thank you to Lisa, Sherry, Sandra, Kevin, and everyone else who made this tour possible! 💚 Want to bring your group on a Sustainable Makers Tour? Reach out to us through our website: https://www.bayareagreentours.org/tours.html ☺️

Last-minute holiday shopping? Consider shopping small at ! 🌱 Located in Alameda, Ploughshares Nursery specializes in California native, drought-tolerant, and edible plants.

BAGT had the pleasure of visiting Ploughshares during our Bioneers Conference 2024 tour, where we learned about their incredible work training and employing residents of the supportive housing community. 100% of their sales go towards fighting homelessness! 💚

Come pick up vegetable starts, meet their adorable rescue pigeons, and chat with their wonderful staff about all things plants! Grow your garden and make a difference in the community at the same time. 🌻

Give the gift of time this holiday season! 🎁 The is always looking for volunteers to support their incredible work feeding over 1,300 families every week.

Recently, BAGT visited the food bank with 10th graders from , and spent the afternoon cleaning carts and shelves, stacking food items, and organizing donations. 🥫 A huge thank you to Patty, Felix, and the rest of the team for their guidance and dedication to serving the Alameda community! 🙌

Why not grab a group of friends and help put holiday meals on the table for those who need it most? 💚

Hope to see some of you at the best conference of the year! There's something for everyone.

From sea to table and back to the sea! 🌊 collects discarded oyster shells from restaurants all over the Bay Area for reuse as nature-based infrastructure! 🦪😮

We visited one of their restoration sites in Heron’s Head Park last June 14th with members from ’s Go Green team. ♻️The shells are diligently cleaned by chickens at , where they dry out in the sun for at least a year. Then, they’re used in reef balls as part of a living shoreline, helping to control erosion and improve wetland habitat. 🐦🦀🌅

This was all part of our SF Restore & Recovery Tour! If you’re interested in supporting local regenerative efforts while learning and engaging with your community, click the link in our bio to set up a tour for your group. 💚

It’s been a busy year for our small but mighty team! On June 14th, we hosted members from ’s Go Green team to volunteer at The EcoCenter at Heron’s Head Park, a hub for outdoor learning programs and workshops. We spent the morning restoring the Nature Exploration Area, getting our hands dirty and soaking in the summer sun. ☀️🌱

Co-designed by children from SF’s southeast neighborhoods, the Nature Exploration Area was built with accessible play elements so that all kids in the city have a chance to explore, enjoy, and immerse themselves outdoors. 🌳🛝It’s so important for today’s kids to be able to spend time outside, so we are proud to have played a part in this meaningful project together with LinkedIn! 🥳

We’re thrilled to offer opportunities for groups to make a difference in the community, just like this SF Restore & Recovery Tour. Click the link in our bio to learn more and set up a tour for your group 💚

Bay Area Green Tours’ Story

We provide educational tours that demonstrate the sustainable economy in action, inspire support of local green businesses, and empower people to incorporate environmental responsibility and social justice into their personal and professional lives. Bay Area Green Tours 501 (c) 3 serves as a conduit to solutions for a more sustainable future and a bridge from the past to all new possibilities. The fundamental idea of Bay Area Green Tours arose from a fourth grade field trip to a wastewater treatment plant in NYC, which our Founding Executive Director, Marissa LaMagna, attended. She couldn’t help but wonder: “Where does all the waste go?”

Ever since Marissa has been an ambitious environmentalist trying to make the proactive changes we need to ensure the health and wellbeing of our shared planet and future generations. In 2008, Marissa began a project of The San Francisco Green Festival, named Bay Area Green Tours which has grown by now into an educational organization showcasing local green models focused on creating a positive and sustainable future.
