Day one in Bora Bora. I tried to snorkel and found out it’s harder when you have COPD. However, my friend Sara did great and was able to swim with the sharks and string rays. I did get some video of everything with my underwater camera. But I have to figure out how to get it from that camera to Facebook.

The expression of the native people's beliefs is through a ritual dance with the aid of intricate masks. The art of mask making is still thriving in Mexico; however, the purpose of wearing them shifted from ceremonial to a more commercial, decorative approach. There are also some rotating exhibits that will let you in on more information about the centuries-long tradition. Even so, rotating exhibits throughout the nation offer tribute to the centuries-long tradition.

Mexican masks were made by farmers, carpenters and other laborers who passed down their skills but often did not identify themselves in their work. The masks can be made from wood, leather, paper-mâché, wax, and metal, embellished with horse and goat hair, straw, ribbons, mirrors, yarn, braided straw, horns, and animal teeth.

Hawaii is known for its lively hula dancing performed by men and women. Presently, hula is for entertainment purposes, but it was performed at special ceremonies a long time ago. Traditionally, hula dancers wear a grass leaf skirt, a flower necklace called a “lei,” and sometimes they’ll have a flower in their hair.

Want to know how hula goes? The dancer flows to a chant. The chanter beats their hand on a gourd, which is dried and emptied to make the rhythm. There are assorted types of hula. For instance, the Hawaiian hula dance is slow, while the Tahitian hula dance style is fast.
