Day 10 - Lemon Groves & Pizza!

Today we will visit Massa Lubrense, a place where the beautiful lemon groves produce the Sorrento lemon - a prized ingredient for many dishes. We will go to Agriturismo Il Turuziello, where we will tour the village and the lemon groves, learn how to make delicious fresh mozzarella while viewing the beautiful countryside. To top it off, we will also make our own pizza for lunch in one of the original stone ovens of the farm! Doesn't that sound good? We think so!

"The Turuziello farm is a small family-run business that has a passion for nature and authentic things. It is passed down from generation to generation.

The Turuziello farm is located in a small and charming hamlet of Massa Lubrense, called Schiazzano. It is famous for growing precious and fragrant lemons. There, in the midst of nature, among the steep rocks that overlook the distant sea and the scent of orange blossoms, you can still taste the genuine flavors of the past.

Handcrafted products with an authentic taste, made with passion and respect for the cycles of nature. The history of the De Gregorio family goes back a long way, to the nineteenth century, when they moved to Schiazzano and earned the nickname "I Sorbettai".

This curious nickname comes from their skill in making lemon sorbet. For this reason, the De Gregorio family was in high demand both at village events and at the most prestigious receptions."

Day 6 of Our Italian Adventure:

We'll make our way to our next accommodation at Tenuta Torciano's Hotel Vecchio Asilo, located in the heart of Tuscany.

Day 5 of Our Italian Adventure:

Today we will study, understand and visit the city of Rome in depth with your English-speaking drivers.

From the Colosseum to the Pantheon, from the Spanish Steps to Piazza Navona; the Circus Maximus, the Vatican, St Peter's Basilica, the Trevi Fountain and more.

At the end of this intense experience, your driver-guide will es**rt you back to your accommodation.

COLOSSEUM This means that we start from one of the most ancient sites in Rome with Skip-the-Line tickets with your English-speaking, private Guide.

CIRCUS MAXIMUS Stop on the side of it and admire what is left with the view of the Palatine Hill.

THE HISTORICAL DRIVING-BY On the way to the next stop, your drive is going to be intense and breath-taking. You’ll go by the so-called “Road of the Temples” and over to the current heart of the city with the view of the Palatine Hill and Piazza Venezia with two very important monuments/sites (the so-called “Wedding Cake" – or Monument dedicated to the first king of Italy and the view of the sadly famous balcony of Mussolini)

VIEW OF THE ROMAN FORUM Stop on a favored spot for the amazing view of where there were the commercial, political, economic, religious and social activities during the ancient Roman Civilization.

PANTHEON Explore the most amazing building in Rome, still intact and filled with history.

TREVI FOUNTAIN Go and toss your coin and wish to come back to our city.

SPANISH STEPS Best driving-by but we can stop right on top of them to admire the view of the dense yet elegant shopping area of the city.

TIME FOR A BREAK You’ll decide what to eat and which kind of lunch to go for. We will give you several options (something quick to go, something intermediate like a pizza or a salad, or something more authentic off-the-beaten-path where only locals eat).

VATICAN VISIT You will tour the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel with your trained English-speaking private Guide. At St. Peter's Basilica there will a brief wait to enter as there are no "skip the line" tickets since it is a church. You will have some time afterwards to visit one of the Vatican Gift Shops if you so choose.

Back to the hotel to relax a bit. Tonight, we'll dine together at a local restaurant.

The Colosseum in Rome of course is such a huge “must see” that people often forget about the history and beauty of the Roman Forum! This was the center of Rome and started as a marketplace.

“The Forum was considered the heart of Rome. While there were many other forums in ancient Rome, the Roman Forum was the most significant.

It was a multi-purpose site that accommodated various functions. Events taking place in the Forum included:

Elections
Public speeches
Criminal trials
Gladiator matches (before the Colosseum was built)
Social gatherings
Business dealings
Public meetings
Religious ceremonies
Educational events
Buying, selling and trading of items

The Forum eventually was deserted and became a grazing field for animals. But in 1803, architect Carlo Fea “rediscovered” the Forum and began excavating the site, which took almost 100 years to finish.

This should really be added to your “must see” list when visiting Rome!

Where beautiful waters meet vibrant cliffside villages. Scenes from “Under the Tuscan Sun” abound.

Walking through Positano’s narrow streets, I loved shopping with my daughter going in and out of all the linen clothing shops, the beautiful, delicate ceramic arts and stopping for a true, handmade “limone granita” sold by a local to cool us down on this 99 degree, very hot day. A memory I’ll not soon forget.
