GETAWAY WEEKEND: Philadelphia makes a great getaway weekend. Accessible either by car or air. Explore history, dining ranging from gourmet to cheesesteaks, see coins being minted. visit the the Fed Reserve and see a million dollar bill, grab some goodies at the Reading Terminal Market, visit Rocky at the art museum and learn why brides in Philly have their wedding photos taken at the Gates of Hell. Leaving tomorrow to speak at the Valley Forge Casino located in King of Prussia, PA (suburb of Philadelphia). The town acquired its name from an old inn in the community that was name for Frederick the Great... who was... (you guessed it)... the King of Prussia.

In April I'll be speaking again in Portland, OR. However, I'm flying through Seattle to do a little sightseeing. Plan to visit Pike Place Market (a larger version of Cleveland's West Side Market). Hopefully, I'll be there when it's time to "throw the fish."

Interesting travel gems are hidden everywhere. Outside of Tuscon is a decommissioned Titan II missile silo that has been converted into a museum. You can actually experience the entry procedures (see the movie, War Games), visit the crew's living quarters and enter the missile's home in the silo. See computers the size of refrigerators and the "state-of-the-art" technology that now seems quaint. Really takes you back to the Cold War.

What's your favorite Hawaiian Island? For me, it's Kauai, the northern most of the four major islands. It's home to Waimea State Park, known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. (Yes, it really looks like the Grand Canyon.) However, it's lush beauty made it the site for the filming of Jurassic Park. But you can't "just" spend time at the beach. You gotta take a "mud bug" tour. You'll laugh, you'll see great scenery. and you'll never be so dirty in your life!

The famous Las Vegas sign is located on the south end of the Las Vegas strip, not far from the Mandalay Bay resort. However, it is technically 4 miles south of the city limits. When erected in 1959 most tourists would be happy to know they're almost at the old downtown area of Las Vegas, which today is called, the Freemont Street Experience.

SF's Golden Gate Bridge is a unique color, International Orange. It's hard to picture it being anything else. However, the US Navy had other plans. They wanted the bridge painted in giant yellow and black stripes as a warning to ships approaching the bays. Fortunately, wiser heads prevailed.

New York City has so much to see and do. But for many of us, our family's journey to America started here. For me, my paternal grandmother came over unescorted at age 16 about 6 weeks after the Titanic sank. Be sure to visit Ellis Island when in NYC. Learn your family's past.

Pierogi are the national dish of Poland. They are made of thinly rolled dough and can be filled with just about anything you can think of, making this dish quite versatile if you're looking for a snack that is spicy, creamy, or sweet. Traditionally, they are filled with meat, sauerkraut, and mushrooms or cabbage. Ruskie Pierogi are filled with potato, cheese, and grilled onions.

Utah has tremendous travel opportunities. Zion, Bryce, Arches... they're all unique.
