Old Parsons chairs have a fun new look with slip on tailored slipcovers. Pre-washing and drying the fabric before they were cut and sewn means they can be tossed in the machine whenever they need it! Mock button closure gives the plain backs a little interest.

So.. a couple of posts down you'll see the removable cover I made for my new-to-me ottoman that Tug had claimed for his own. He decided he likes my swivel rocker too, and it was getting really dirty, so I made a removable, machine washable slipcover for the chair and cushion. I think it came out really good!!

I wanted to share this recent project which shows how the correct proportions of a window treatment can balance a room. The before photo (say hi to my installer Brad) shows that the windows almost compete with the king size bed and the beautiful piece of artwork for attention, but the room lacked cohesion, balance, and softness. These treatments solved all of those problems! Installed off center to make the windows appear wider, they scale the size of the windows up to better work with the bed and art. The best part of the day was when my customer said "I'm never leaving this room" :) :) :)

This ottoman looks upholstered, but after stripping it of it's old heavy velvet upholstery fabric, I made an easily removable cushion cover and a slipcover for the base. Now, when my dog jumps on it with his dirty doggie paws, I can throw it in the washer and dryer! Next up, a slipcover for the chair...

So many changes and projects going on at Printers Alley! The bad news is that I will not be fabricating/sewing during my tenure with the store - after all there are only so many hours in a day. The good news is that I'm more available than ever for consultations to discuss your projects and help in any way I can. I love working with my designers! The lovely soft fold Roman shades we created for a client of Motif Homes are just one of the charming elements that make this corner so appealing.

Custom pieces add function, character, and color to a room. It is hard to believe this nook had nothing in it before install. The custom buffet and reclaimed wood shelving complete this living space and give me 🥰

Today we installed window treatments in 9 rooms of a local church, but this by far the most dramatic before and after. The windows now feel much more in-scale to the room, and totally change the feel of the space. When the draperies are open, the fabric stacks completely on the wall which allows the entire window to be exposed for maximum light.

Check out this creative way to add color without using a traditional print fabric. We used 4 different fabrics to introduce the colors the client wanted to use in a bold drapery design. The Greek key design was used on the accent pillows and table runner, made from matching fabric and gimp trim. The chairs sport new upholstered seats that match the runner. Here's an interesting way to treat partially shuttered windows. Most of the time these banded Roman shades act as tailored valances in this guest room, but when overnight guests want some privacy, the shades drop down to cover the top half of the windows.

Simplicity is sometimes the best way to go. We used the top of the fireplace as the horizontal reference point for the decorative hardware. Simple panels, and a collection of coordinating custom made down/feather pillows finish the room.

This lovely linen print selected for a master bedroom treatment was the perfect balance for the bedding and upholstery that was already in the space.

As promised, here is the final (almost) project from the design plan shown in the previous post. A long bolster for the bed is on the way, but otherwise it's complete and lovely! Don't you agree? There are little details such as the coconut shell buttons on the duvet cover and shams, the use of 3 different fabrics on the valances, and a 3-piece bedskirt that is attached with velcro, that make this bedroom special. So glad we could find a way to use the zebra print fabric the customer loved :)

Sweet treatment for a tricky little guest room bay window. The homeowner was concerned that a continuous valance wouldn't work because of the uneven placement of the windows from the corner, but I assured her it would. She was thrilled with the result! She was especially happy that I was able to use the fabric from an unwanted drapery panel to make the valances.

We installed some lovely window treatments today in the sitting room of a master suite. Stationary panels and 'Carolina' valances with coordinating decorative hardware compliment each other perfectly. Custom bedding and accessories coming soon!

Simple panels are all it takes to transform a space (along with some beautiful hardware). Many people think a lot of fabric makes windows feel smaller, but I believe it gives importance to them!
