9-1-1. We will never forget.
This Wednesday afternoon (ETA 2-3pm), a piece of World Trade Center steel is scheduled to pass through our town on its way to its ultimate destination at the Woolwich Township municipal building.
The Borough of Swedesboro needs your help in lining the Kings Highway to properly welcome the steel, as it is escorted through the community by wounded warriors as well as police and fire departments. Please mark your calendar and be prepared to head downtown Wednesday afternoon. More information will be posted as it becomes available. Thank you.
Post from Woolwich Township page --
"Woolwich Township is honored to have been chosen to take possession of a 4,000 lb. steel beam from the World Trade Center. We plan to place it here at the municipal building in a memorial garden.
We will be picking up the beam this Wednesday, June 10th at the NYNJ Port Authority and transporting it back to its new home here at the municipal building.
A small team of officials will be leaving the township building at 9:00 a.m. to travel to the Port Authority. From there, the team will meet with NJ State Police, Warrior Watch, the Woolwich Fire Company and PD and other township officials from where the larger caravan will then travel down the turnpike to Swedesboro. A small ceremony will take place at the Woolwich Fire House and from there, the National Guard Honor Guard will be escorting the caravan (walking) down Kings Hwy. to the municipal building where a second brief ceremony will be held.
The public is invited to witness this historic event. We would hope to have residents line the streets of Kings Hwy. from the Fire House to the Municipal Building. Also plan to attend the brief ceremony at the Municipal Building upon its arrival. While timing is not certain, we hope to be arriving between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m."
