Our last full day we visited…
🏛️White House (site see)
🧱Washington Monument was hard to get tickets to but it was well worth it. The history and views made for a great visit.
🇺🇸National Museum of American History
🕵️♀️Spy Museum was one of the kids (and Rays) favorite museum. It’s an interactive museum where you get to be a spy and complete a mission.
🧱Pentagon (site see)
🪦Arlington Cemetary is by far the most solemn place we visited. I’m glad the kids and I got to see the near 400 acres of lives that were given for my country and freedom. The tomb of the unknown soldier and changing of the guard was something we will never forget.
Day four
🕰️Old Post Office which is now the Waldorf Astoria. You can take an elevator up the tower for beautiful views.
📜National Archives Museum was chalk full of historical documents such as the Declaration of Independence.
📖Library of Congress had amazing architecture. We saw the Gutenberg Bible and even got Library cards which alllowed us access into the reading rooms.

We got to meet up with Wickers intern at his office for the Capital tour.

Highlight of the day. Seeing the senate floor was pretty cool, no pictures because they confiscate all bags/phones.
Day 3 was our first full day and man was it a full day!
⛪️We walked to Ford Theater and along the way stopped into St. Patricia’s Parish church for a peek.
🎭Ford Theater was the highlight of the day. We watched a 40 min play about Harry Ford and Harry Hawk’s point of view of the day Lincoln was shot. We then walked across the street to Peterson House where Lincoln ultimately passed.
✈️Then we walked to the Air & Space Museum, site seeing along the way.
🦖🦴Right next door is the Natural History Museum which is HUGE! From dinosaur bones to the Hope Diamond, it is filled with rooms amoung rooms of artifacts.
🛴Next we hopped on the rentable scooters to site see for a while…. that was an adventure because Kinley had to ride with Ray since there weren’t enough scooters.
🗝️We finished the day at The Escape Game and we escaped!

Day two and we made it to Union Station!
We checked into our hotel at Embassy Suites by Hilton Washington DC Convention Center. It was a very good location and perfect for larger families who need extra space plus it included made to order breakfast. We took a quick trip to the Apple Carnegie Library before dinner.
We wanted to try new foods on this trip so our first stop was Iron Age Korean Steak House. The kids all loved it.
Our big splurge was a golf cart night tour with Bull Moose Tours. Our tour guide (owner) Andy showed us around DC for two hours telling us facts as well as stopping at Capital Hill, Library of Congress, Supreme of Congress, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Reflecting Pool, Jefferson Memorial, and White House.
We finished the night with a late night snack at the hotel restaurant Brickstone Kitchen & Grill.
⭐️Amtrak Review⭐️
Was it a bust or a must?
First let me give you some details. We are a family of 5 traveling to Washington DC during spring break. I started comparing cost of driving, flying or a train ride. Driving would take about 15 hours one way and cost about $300. Flying into IAD took about 6 hours one way and cost about $2200 round trip, lastly Amtrak took 27 hours one way and cost about $1200 round trip. We decided to take the Amtrak to Union Station, DC and fly home to New Orleans.
Amtrak has three options in seating on the Cresent 20; Coach, Roomette and Bedroom. Coach is assigned seats but not until arrival. Roomette is a small room that holds 2 with included meals. Bedroom is a small room that hold 2 with private shower, restroom and included meals. Cost was significantly higher for the Roomette and bedroom. Example, 5 coach tickets cost $600. 3 Roomette cost $3500. 3 Bedroom cost $5000. Needless to say, we chose Coach!
Coach seats were very roomy, comfy, had a tray, footrest, and leg rest. Bathrooms were clean but smelly (like a portalet). For the first 8 hours, we were really enjoying it… then bedtime came. The train still stopped in the middle of the night making it hard to sleep. So if you are a light sleeper, it might not be enjoyable. Plan to bring earplugs and eye mask.
So is Amtrak must or bust??? I would say MUST but only once for overnight.

My family and I take a yearly Cousins Trip to Destin. This 4 bedroom, 4 bath was perfect for a multi-family vacation. It was right on the beach, next to Destin Commons. Could use a little update on the furniture but overall great!
