Earlier this evening the Vit Plant team working went into a take cover as a precautionary measure. All of our staff are safe and accounted for. The ammonia vapors were from vessels away from other buildings. See below for the original notice from DOE.

A huge thank you to our Vit Plant staff who participated and sponsored a child and/or family during our annual Giving Tree event. Workers from the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) were amazed by the number of wrapped presents during Tuesday’s pick up.

The donations are going to 75 children who need it most this holiday season, and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of our staff who dug into their pockets and donated their time to pick out gifts for children they will never meet. Shoutout to our team members who helped load presents into the cars! They were stuffed full 🎁🎄🙌

Meet the Hanford Vit Plant Emergency Preparedness team! They lead preparation of the Vit Plant’s facilities and crews by planning, organizing, and conducting emergency drills and simulations. By providing valuable hands-on training for response teams and working with other One Hanford contractors, they help keep the workforce safe and keep the cleanup mission moving forward.

✅Our team at the Vit Plant recently completed the final test of key safety systems, demonstrating that our facility’s emissions treatment system can remain functional, even during an emergency loss of power.

🔈“This test was exceptionally complex. It included running both melters with a cold cap for the first time ever, which is an achievement in its own right,” said Chris Musick, deputy project director for WTP.

Construction crews recently installed a crane inside the Vit Plant’s High-Level Waste Facility. The crane is the 12th piece of equipment lowered through the roof using the site’s tower crane this year, following previous installations of shield doors and other cranes.

As the weather starts to change at Hanford, our jobsite crews at the Vit Plant are tackling key winterization projects like updating drainage systems to prevent ice and slippery surfaces.
