Intercepted a very brief "seconds long" tornado near Dexter, KS today between tours. The storm's structure was far more exciting than the tornado, so we're just sharing the structure. Got a second tornado warned storm near Arkansas City that had that loud "clap thunder." Great storms, tough roads.

This package of Velcro has a story. It was purchased by the late Tim Samaras, who gave it to me because I was having a problem that needed a Velcro fix and we were nowhere near a store. I found it in one of our van seat's back pockets after his death and it's been hanging on the wall of our shop ever since, never to be used. I look at it everyday when I'm scanning the pegboard for a tool and always think of Tim when I do. -bb

Tornado Intercept May 17, 2019

You might have heard that the USA just launched a new weather satellite this week. It has about five months of testing to go through, and should be online sending data to us by the 2017 tornado season in Tornado Alley. Here is a side-by-side comparison of how this system will improve weather forecasting.

#HurricaneMatthew The GFS is forecasting Matthew to do a loop and then come back at the #FloridaKeys. We have officially entered the Twilight Zone.

There is another #tropical disturbance in the gulf, near Key West. You can see it clearly here in this animated loop. There is also a line of convective #storms in the gulf associated with an upper-level feature that will prevent this disturbance from strengthening, at least for now.

OKC weather radar detected birds taking flight and scattering as earthquake hit. Cool!

Roo came over from England to go storm chasing with us in hopes to see "a tornado." He saw so many tornadoes by the 4th day of his trip that he lost count!

We often get approached by locals who tell us their tornado story, or just thank us for being out there. This lady is from Liberal, KS and came over to the van to thank us. Tornado Alley people are the best people!

Things are getting punchy in Mexico. The La Manzanilla camera just got obliterated.
