A highlight of any summertime Gasparilla Island trip are the Tarpon fishing tournaments! Every year from May through the end of the season, local tarpon fishing tournaments take place off the coast of Florida.

An opportunity to learn more comes in the Port Boca Grande lighthouse museum! Ran by the Barrier Island Parks Society, Inc. and located in Gasparilla Island State Park, the lighthouse contains tokens of the history of the island and is definitely worth a visit.

When we visit Nuevo Vallarta, Dugarel Plays Restaurant & Bar in Bucerius is our first-night restaurant. It’s easy to take a taxi there or you can walk the beach. Why not walk there and ride back? However, it is two miles each way to walk it.

We 100% recommend the chips and guacamole with margaritas!
