Bier Garden Tours Welcome to the Bier Garden Tours page! Thank you for visiting my page! I have decided to marry me two passion, bier and travel.

As some of you may already know, I was a travel agent before we opened The Bier Garden 27 years ago. I plan on specializing in brewery tour vacations, but would love to help you plan any trips you have been wanting to take.

Day 8: Here we are, the grande finale. Budapest is so utterly amazing. I’ve been twice before but not like this. The first time when I was 12 right after the wall came down and I returned in 2011, what a different world it was. This time was also different for me as we came by water and I can totally agree that this city must be seen from a he water. It truly is the only one way to see everything at once (kinda). After visiting a lot of the ‘must-see’ we took off and visited the famous market and I was able to grab my dad a salami (since he refuses to return to his birth city) and we found a ruin bar to relax in for a bit. A ruin bar is a building that is far too debilitated to repair so they patch it and make it something new. This one was amazing. If my dad were given free range at The Bier Garden this is how it would look. Later that evening we did an illuminated boat tour from the river. It. Was. Breath taking.

I hope you have enjoyed my travels. Please reach out if you have any questions or are interested in booking a trip of your own, I already have dates saved for next summer 😍

Day 7: Bratislava - wow, just wow. I will say this was originally the city I wasn’t very excited about, not knowing much about it. It was stunning. Beauty around every corner. It was a raining/drizzly day at first but by lunch time it had cleared up and was a beautiful sunny day. We were super lucky and there happened to be a farmers market going on the weekend we were there and got to walk through witnessing people practice their crafts, from lace weaving to blacksmithing. It was truly remarkable. Later in the evening back on the boat and after dinner we headed down the river towards our final destination (Budapest!!) and we went through the deepest lock yet! This one was 90 feet deep! It was an incredible experience and I can’t believe it’s a mark of this trip almost being completed.

Day 6: Today we visited a local Austrian farm that produced mostly pumpkins for pumpkin seed oil and strawberry’s. We were able to sample some products from both, from strawberry sparkling wine to pumpkin oil served over ice cream. It’s fascinating to me that they also had the mark of the swollen River doing through their show room even though they are a kilometer from the Danube. We then walked next door to the local pig farm where we sampled special smoked meats and there was even a kitty and tortoise duo I was accused of trying to steal 😂. After a delicious lunch on the ship we have some free time to check out the beautiful town of Durnstein, where ‘rabbit shot’ treats are originally from 😂. We finished out the city with a glass of wine IN a vineyard. What an amazing day.

Day 5: So today we went to a beautiful castle town called Ceský Krumlov in the Czech Republic. It had me all in the feels as the tour guide discussed how the Germans that lived Sudetenland for decades were forcibly removed during WWII because of hi**er. My mother was born in a German community outside Prague which is part of this area and migrated to Germany in 1944. It was really cool to visit this part of the country for the first time, it is incredibly beautiful. This small castle town has a moat that goes around the entire downtown area and so many people were taking advantage of the beautiful weather by floating down the current on rafts.

Day 4: We were so excited when we heard the cruise director tell us that we could finally leave the dock! At 2 pm we shoved off and finally began our journey downstream to Linz! We went through our first of many locks. It was an amazing thing to be apart of, and gave us an excuse to hang out on the top deck and get some fresh air… even if it was chilly enough for our winter coats.

Day 3: We had our first excursion day and got to play in Passau. It was really neat to see this beautiful old city even though it was drizzly and overcast. You can see how the flood has effected the roads and covered some parks in sediment. One of the local artists marked on the walls where one flood level was in one alley. We finished our tour by drinking come local beer, pretzles and obatzda.

Day 2: Ship embarkation day! I had no idea there was so much rain in the mountains, but apparently I was the highest it’s been since 2013 when the entire river banks up and down the Danube were flooding the streets. Thank fully it wasn’t close to those levels, but we still have to meet our ship in a different town and wait an extra day before moving on to our next town. I was shocked to see actual TREES floating down thre river.
