When a cruise ship comes upon an overcrowded boat (16 people) as she is heading back to Fort Lauderdale - the Captain makes contact, if all appears okay with the people on the boat and they do not want assistance, they are left alone. In this case, the people on the boat do not want assistance. I guess because of our location, the US Coast Guard is notified. We will wait at this location for about three hours, until the Coast Guard arrives, to make sure the people on the boat are not in danger.

My Gluhwein mugs from our 2011 Rhine River Christmas Markets cruise. From Zurich to Amsterdam, I collected 12, some duplicates. Christmas Markets visited were in the cities/villages of Zurich, Munich, Basel, Colmar, Strasbourg, Heidelberg, Rudesheim, Koblenz, and Cologne.

You can never go home again ... but I sure want to go back and spend some time in Dubai. Jay and I called Dubai “home” between 1993 and 1997. We rented a 2 bedroom apartment in Number One Tower between 1996 and 1997. This condo building is right on Sheik Zayed Highway which connects Dubai to Abu Dhabi. When we lived there it was in the middle of nowhere. Notice the series of condos on the opposite side of the highway from Number One Tower. You needed a car or taxi to get everywhere as you can imagine from my 1997 photo. Today -wow- top photo shows all the growth across the highway (someone took the top photo from a balcony, I think, at Number One Tower). The series of condos are still there, but so is the Burj Khalifa (Burj Dubai) which was built in 2010 and is, I believe, still the tallest structure and building in the world. Now a suites hotel, I am finding mixed reviews on Number One Tower and would have to check it out further before recommending.

Porto has a new museum district devoted to wine, wine education, and chocolate. This will be such a great area to visit. It is just below The Yeatman Hotel, a must-stay for an upscale hotel experience with beautiful views of the Douro River and the city of Porto. Our stay at The Yeatman several years ago was perfect. We walked to many port houses and down to the river. The area is vey hilly so comfy shoes and a bit of stamina are required.

Portugal's "WOW" includes, count 'em, six museums devoted to wine, chocolate and cork, but don't sleep on labor-of-love collections elsewhere devoted to shipwreck Champagne, Roman amphorae and more. In Wine Spectator's Unfiltered.
