New Orleans and the “go cup”.

New Orleans is not a city that hides. It puts itself out there, it is proud, it is unapologetic, it does what it wants and dares anyone to say anything about it.

Hence the “go cup”. In NOLA it is completely acceptable to walk around drinking your adult beverage as you take in the sights. It’s obvious from the first time you step into a Willie’s Chicken Shack and they hand you your choice of frozen daiquiri (I’m a fan of the Frosé personally) in a styrofoam cup with a lid. They are saying here, take this and continue on your bacchanal journey through the city.

Finishing your meal? Go ahead, order another beer in a (you guessed it) go cup. Thirsty as you are walking? Stop into one of the Huge A$$ beer alcoves and get yourself… well. I think the name says it all. Pat O’Briens (or Pat O’s as it’s affectionately known) will even pack your “real glass” in a container to take with you after you’ve poured your drink into your go cup.

As Dr. John said- “You wanna do some livin’ before you die. Do it down in New Orleans”. And you definitely can!

Anthony Bourdain once said-“There is no place on earth like New Orleans. Don’t even try to compare it to anywhere else”

New Orleans is a city of contrast- sleek tall buildings surrounded by shotgun shack houses, funeral parades filled with singing and dancing, old world traditions mingling with new ideas of how things should be done.

New Orleans can’t be beat in its options for food, music, and entertainment. You can spend days doing nothing but eating and still never scratch the surface- trust me, we’ve tried!

We are spending this long weekend in NOLA so I will be posting info about places to visit, things to do, and, of course, places to eat!

Fall break is just around the corner! For most local schools, fall break is October 2-6 (or Sept. 30- October 8th if you include the weekends...why wouldn't you?!?) That's less than two months (43 days) away! If you haven't booked a trip yet, what are you waiting for??

My very first trip to Walt Disney World (as an adult) was during fall break when our daughter was 4. The weather was much better than a summer trip, the crowds were lower than spring break, and there were two special events going on that made our trip even better!

The first was Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. This is a special ticketed event- meaning that it is not included in regular ticket prices, a special ticket must be purchased. This also means the only people who will be in Magic Kingdom are others who have purchased that ticket. This makes for a perfect opportunity to see Disney characters with less wait, oooh and ahh over the gorgeous Halloween and fall decorations, catch a special show with everyone's favorite witches in the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular, AND a special parade and fireworks show. OR you can use that time to get in some extra rides without as long of a wait! There are currently tickets available for October 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th- but don't wait too long or they will be gone!

The second event is the Food and Wine Festival at EPCOT. I love this festival!! Not only can you eat at any of the "regular" EPCOT restaurants, but there are also Global Marketplaces set up throughout the World Showcase that feature foods and beverages from different countries. Trust me, if you love food like I do, this is the place to be!!
