Scenes from our partner village in Kyrgyzstan.

Not a ton has changed since we first stumbled into this amazing place almost 16 years ago. Pretty cool, though, to see upgrades to our partner family’s home every year…especially that time we arrived to find indoor plumbing and the addition of a bathroom and shower!!! Hard to believe the girls used to tow sleds and old Soviet milk cans down to the river to fetch water.

These awesome snaps by don’t tell that story, or describe the depth of our relationship with the place and family, but they do tell an important part of the 40 Tribes Kyrgyzstan story:

Votes are in (irony intended 😂) for our April 27-May 5 itinerary. We have a past client and a buddy of his who are interested in a second session using the same basecamp that we’ll be using for our April 20-28 itinerary (which is full).

This is a NEW ZONE, and the few photos we’ve seen are incredible. It’s not super far from Longyearbyen, but rarely visited, and has been discussed amongst our guides for a few years now.

The itinerary will offer 5 full days of skiing from camp, with plenty of time to ski on arrival day as well…especially seeing that camp will already be established AND the will be shining! On Day 6, we’ll break down camp and transfer to the funky abandoned Soviet mining town of —a fascinating place that is seeing a bit of a renaissance with a hotel, restaurants, and bars. Should make for a really fun and unique end to the trip, and there’s plenty of skiing to be done right outside of town.

It’s almost November 😳 and you know what that means… Spots on our 2025 trips are going, going, almost gone!!

They’re good peeps. 3 of them skied/rode with us in Kyrgyzstan a few seasons ago so we can vouch for them. 2 of their buddies are joining for this adventure. All from the US.

A ski trip, that is a total trip. There’s nothing quite like basing from the medieval villages of Upper . These castle-like towers are scattered throughout the valley—originally built to serve in defense against invaders during the 9th-12th centuries!! The region’s rich cultural history is literally in your face everywhere you look.

It’s been dumping in the Caucasus this week. Our Racha trip just filled but we still have space in Svaneti February 11-21.

That’s right before the descends on the valley for the Georgia Pro event window. Could be cool to stick around and watch the comp if you’re flexible for the month of Feb!

This is not Kyrgyzstan. It’s our lead guide ripping one in Alaska. But the best part about skiing in KGZ is that it requires you to ski like you’re in AK! Big, fast, freeride-style turns. Proper pow skis are a must. The unconsolidated snowpack literally won’t let you make too many turns or ski too slow. Speed is your friend, and the fatter your skis, the happier you’ll be!!!

One of my faves captured by in Kyrgyzstan last season. Swipe 👈 for the full frame.

What you can’t tell from this photo is that this particular slope is almost always bare. Like no snow. It’s due S-facing and pretty low in elevation. It’s a funny looking feature that we stare at from our camp, with spruce trees standing at the top…hence the name “Mohawk Point.”

Last season wasn’t the first time it’s been skied. But it was definitely the deepest it’s ever skied!!! With 48cms of new snow at the end of WK3 and an additional 44cms the week after, the WK4 crew had no choice but to poke over there from camp and session the ‘Hawk.

Snapshots from the past 10 days in Chile!! 🇨🇱 Starting from the village of Las Trancas, the crew summited and rode Cerro Pirigallo (2571m) and Volcán Chillán Nuevo (3186m) before moving south to Malalcahuello in the magical Araucanía region where they ticked off Volcanes Lonquimay (2865m) and Llaima (3240m). A wet storm with freezing levels up to ~2600m squashed their attempt of Volcán Villarrica as the closing objective, but there was no shortage of hot springs to soak in! And as always, the food, the wine, the accommodation, the vibes were 🤌

Today the mystery itinerary crew arrives in Temuco…

When not staying at family-run guesthouses in villages at the foot of 4000-5000m peaks, we’ll be staying here, in a wooden cabin above the clouds 🫠 The private is owned and operated by our second guide and Svaneti native . The hut offers insane views of Mt. Tetnuldi and Mt. Ushba, and access to the nearby Chalaadi Glacier, which consistently provides some of the best pow skiing in Svaneti.

April 20-28 is a mixed group of 6 and will be run as a basecamp-style expedition in a NEW ZONE that has been talked about amongst our guides and partners for a few years now. The few photos we’ve seen are incredible.

April 27-May 5 has been booked by a private group of 6. We’ve presented four itineraries—2 different basecamp options, 1 Russian coal mining town-based/sled-assist option, and 1 super comfortable lodge-based option—and they’re currently deciding on one.

Who watched the Georgia stop last year? Yes, FWT added a Georgia 🇬🇪 stop at Tetnuldi Ski Resort in Svaneti!!

We’ve already voiced our mixed emotions about it. But it sure would be cool to catch the 2025 comp IN PERSON, by hanging around Svaneti a little longer after the end of our February trip.

While FWT hasn’t officially announced dates yet, we know via our second guide and Svan local that the weather window will be immediately following our trip. How does he know that? Because he’ll start guiding for the event the day after wrapping up with our crew.

Just some food for thought if you’ve got a flexible February!

On this day last year I was choking. Literally couldn’t breathe. After a lot of back and forth and mixed messages, doctors finally decided I needed to be seen at the ER. Lungs were scanned, “presumed COVID” was the diagnosis. Had decisions been made differently and had I been formally admitted to the hospital, I’m not sure I’d be here today. For sure the most frightening and difficult experience I and my family have gone through. For sure a good reason to give thanks and praise for my health as I’m feeling it today 🙏🙏🙏
