I have good friends off to St. Lucia this week to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. I was honored that they thought of using me to help in planning this joyous occasion.

And I have to tell you about how we decided on their accommodations and activities.

This is my 2nd time planning trips for them and I knew we needed to get clear on their wish list since this was their first time visiting St. Lucia.

To understand my friends' goals and preferences for their trip, we setup a call to discuss everything and then I sent an inquiry form for them to fill out so that I could have records to refer back to as I planned it.

After our initial chat followed by the client form, we both had clarity on what they wanted: something adventurous and out of the norm of their usual getaways since they're celebrating 30 years of marital bliss.

They didn't want activities daily so we just booked a couple of activities. We booked a sunset catamaran one evening and a day of local shopping another day.

Nothing beats a personalized approach to travel, in my opinion.

Just casually putting together an incredible itinerary for my clients headed to Paris for a milestone anniversary, and trust me, this one is going to be spectacular!

I can’t spill all the details just yet, but I do have a shortlist of hotels that will make this trip even better.

Current travel obsession!

Right now, I’m getting certified as a specialist on Hawaii, and I’m hooked.

My friend had to tear me away from planning this itinerary that’s so good, now I want to take the trip too.

Stay @ Hale Koa hotel because it's an oceanfront retreat and reviews of the rooms and customer service are awesome.

Eat ___ Saimin and Musubi, I've heard that it is delicious and I love to try good food.

Do ___ Visit historic sites such as the Pearl Harbor National Memorial and the beautiful beaches just to name a few things.

I‘ve been called a lot of things in my life, but I‘ll happily take the title of margarita connoisseur/Beach lounger expert/resort food critic.

It‘s really all in a day‘s work because while it may look like I‘m just sipping drinks, relaxing by the pool, and simply just enjoying the ocean views, I‘m actually observing, learning, and making mental notes for my clients.

In my recent stay at Sea Breeze Beach House for example, I picked up on a few things that I‘ll definitely be passing on to my clients.

Things like:

👉 Which restaurants are great, and which they can skip.

👉 Whether to book the swim-up or go for a room on a higher floor

👉 Whether the rooms in the higher room categories are worth the bigger price tag.

I‘m touring the different rooms, I‘m taste-testing the food and drinks (lucky me!), I‘m checking out all of the pools and taking a walk along the beach.

Having firsthand information is so valuable, it can make all the difference when you‘re staring down resort options and trying to figure out which one is best for you.

Here’s my take as a travel advisor:

Yes, you can take reviews into consideration, but its risky to base your whole decision off the perspectives of strangers.

I’ve been to hotels that had bad reviews, but they ended up being perfect for me and my travel style.

On the flip side, I’ve been to hotels with great ratings that just didn’t quite live up to my expectations.

Taking the time to understand what you truly want and value from your travel experience is a great place to start so you don’t get confused or swayed when you read reviews.

The only thing keeping me at my desk on this gorgeous sunny summer day are these itineraries and proposals for my awesome clients. I’m currently finalizing:

🌹💖😎🛳️A big milestone 20th anniversary Regent cruise for my long-time clients who I’ve planned over 6 trips so far.

Maldives. Here we come!

Well, not me, but my clients! I’ve been so fully immersed in their itinerary for the past few days that I feel like it’s my trip too.

I’m sitting this one out but will be living vicariously through them.

My clients are taking a rekindling vacation. They really needed time to bond and reconnect because of their demanding jobs.

There are so many great choices, so it took us a minute to narrow it down but they’ll be staying at _Waldorf Astoria which ___ is true first class in every way.

Like I said, I’ll be over here drinking my wine, living vicariously because this trip will be AWESOME.

Pesky summer travel hiccups + what to do about them ➡️ Seat Swap Surprises So, you’ve checked in online and picked your seats, but then you get to the airport and... surprise! They’ve changed. What to Do: Head straight to the gate desk (not the ticketing counter). Gate agents are your best friends here—they can help fix the seating situation or find someone willing to switch seats. Lost or Delayed Luggage ➡️ Your bags are MIA What to do: Find the airline’s baggage desk near the baggage claim area and file a claim before you leave the airport. If you can’t locate the desk, call the airline ASAP to report your missing luggage. Hang on to those receipts for any essentials you need to buy—just keep it reasonable (no designer splurges, unfortunately). Then, when you’re back, file a claim with your travel insurance. If you got ➡️ Delayed and cancelled flights What to do: Check the Department of Transportation (DOT) Dashboard: If the delay is within the airline’s control, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Airline Customer Service Dashboard will show you what each airline should do to make it up to you. ➡️ Not Loving Your Hotel Room Your room’s not up to par? Here’s how to get it sorted What to do: Ask for the manager. Call from your room or go to the front desk and ask to speak to a manager. Be specific about the issues and honest about what resolution you’re seeking. ➡️ Rental Car Issues What to do: If your rental car isn’t what you expected, contact the rental company’s customer service. They might be able to upgrade or switch your vehicle. Always check the car for damage before driving off the lot and report any issues immediately. Nothing makes me think YIKES more than seeing online forums and messages of people who’s vacations were ruined because they got to their resort or hotel and it was not as expected. Now, some of you may not necessarily care too much about where you lay your head at night, you’re there to explore and enjoy the destination. Don’t go off of the photos online, and outdated reviews you’re hoping still reflect the current situation. I’m a military vet and have traveled all over the world serving my country. You should live your best life while you can. I’m the owner of Joyful Travelz, serving as an Independent Travel Agent. I want to assist those that may not have the time to research travel locations/options or those that aren’t familiar with booking for themselves. I want to put your mind at ease by doing the work for you and you select which option works for you and we go from there.

I would like to tell you a little about myself. I’m from Lambert, MS, a very small town in what’s known as “the Delta.” It’s not too far from from Memphis, TN. I’m the youngest child and was always curios about what was beyond the small town where I grew up. I have a very large family and we love to have get together’s reminiscing about our younger days. I truly enjoy those fellowship times with them. I love my family.

Joining the military was one of the best decisions that I could’ve made for my future. I served in many roles from Squad leader to Platoon Sergeant. Some of my best specialty assignments were where I served as a Drill Sergeant at Fort Leonard Wood (FLW), MO and later as a Drill Sergeant Leader at Fort Benning, GA. Those were among my most rewarding positions that I performed while serving my country. I would have to say that it was indeed an honor and privilege to have served under President George W. Busch and President Barack Obama, traveling all over the world in support of the mission. I enjoyed the good and the bad, now that I can reflect back on it. I know that it molded me into the woman that I am today. I truly have met some amazing women and men that are brothers and sisters to me along my career while serving. We will always have each others back, a true bond of love and respect.

I’ve always loved to travel. Again, I want to ease the burden of researching for you and finding the perfect vacation/getaway for you. I’m certainly not a magician, but I can make you smile by doing the “HARD RESEARCH” for you.
