: During Osage County's oil boom of the early 20th century, you could find auctioneer Colonel Ellsworth Walters holding oil and natural gas lease auctions under the famous elm tree on the lawn of what is now the Osage Nation Museum. Those in attendance included several names still familiar today, including Phillips Petroleum Company founder Frank Phillips and Marland Oil Company founder E.W. Marland.

On account of the many huge deals that took place under it's shady branches, this tree became known as the "Million Dollar Elm." Sadly, the tree died in the early 1980s, but visitors to the museum can still see the Oklahoma Historical Society monument marking its place, not to mention all the historic treasures of the museum itself. Allen’s act combines clean, hilarious humor like no other comedian working today, and he regularly appears on Dry Bar Comedy, Netflix, Amazon, Huckabee, Pureflix, Showtime, Comedy Central, VH1, and America's Got Talent.

Did you know that two of America's earliest ballet stars were from Osage County? Maria Tallchief, born in Fairfax in 1925, embarked on her ballet journey at the tender age of just three, ultimately achieving the distinction of becoming the nation's first major prima ballerina. Born October 19, 1926, Maria's younger sister Marjorie also shone brightly in the ballet world, securing her own place in history as the first Native American dancer named a principal at the Paris Opera Ballet.

Last year, the US Mint issued a commemorative $1 coin featuring Maria and Marjorie, along with three other renowned Native American ballerinas from Oklahoma – collectively known as the "Five Moons." The girls' father Alex Tallchief established Fairfax’s Tallchief Theater in 1928, which for years served as a gathering place for the community to enjoy the arts of stage and screen. Private tours of the Tallchief Theater are available by arrangement, so visitors can get an inside look at this unique piece of Osage County's cultural and artistic heritage. The Constantine Theater of Pawhuska has been around for quite a while. This handsome and historic building started out as a hotel in the 1880s, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Since the early 1900s, many visitors have reported ghost sightings in the theater. Theatergoers can still catch all kinds of concerts and performances here, and private tours are available by arrangement. You can find more information at https://www.constantinetheater.com/

On the morning of October 12, 1912 a bandit robbed the bank of J. Harvey Comer in Prue. The criminal forced Comer to load up a heavy bag of silver coins and carry it a half-mile into the woods where his horse was waiting – a horse which he had stolen the night before from a nearby ranch. The following day this rancher spotted the bandit riding his horse, and a shootout ensued in which the thief was killed.

This thief was later identified as the notorious bandit Walter Jarrett. While about $2,000 was found on Jarrett's body at the time of his death, this amount did not include the bag of silver coins. It's thought that he stopped along the way and buried them somewhere near Prue on the north side of the Arkansas River, and to this day the treasure has never been found.
