For International Women's Day, we're highlighting the life and achievements of one the many amazing women of Osage County. Mabelle Kennedy’s family first came to Oklahoma from Missouri in a covered wagon in 1891. After the trip – which she later described as one long picnic – her family settled in Ralston near the Osage County line. She married Edmund Kennedy in 1908, and the couple moved to Pawhuska in 1909, where they bought a controlling interest in the National Bank of Commerce.
When Edmund passed away in 1936, Mabelle studied banking and ranch management, becoming a successful business leader. She went on to serve as the mayor of Pawhuska, later as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury.
Mabelle and Edmund’s Pawhuska home was later transformed into an elegant hostelry named in her honor which still welcomes guests to this day. When you're headed our way, experience a little bit of this history for yourself with stay at The Mabelle Bed & Bath.
