Watts Bar Lake

Located midway between Knoxville and Chattanooga, Watts Bar Lake is one of nine TVA dams on the Tennessee River. At over 39,000 acres and 780 miles of shoreline, the reservoir attracts millions of recreation visits each year for boating, fishing, swimming, camping, and other outdoor activities. Area marinas provide 500 boat slips, large and small boat rentals, houseboats, cabins, and supplies. Unlimited coves and islands with natural sand beaches make an idea lake for all water sports. Watts Bar lake is fed by three major rivers and at least six large creeks. Anglers may choose from jumbo crappie as well as lunker largemouth and smallmouth bass and trophy stripers. The abundance of most types of freshwater fish will provide lasting memory for the avid fisherman. Completed in January 1942, just 3 weeks after Pearl Harbor, the Watts Bar dam provided urgently needed electricity for the war effort. In conjunction with other tributary and main-river reservoirs above Chattanooga, the reservoir plays an important role in flood control for Chattanooga and other downstream communities. would
