The magic of color, texture and surface has mesmerized and intoxicated me for as long as I can remember. To this day, materials are often my inspiration. I want to get to know them and see what we can do. At the age of 3, I created my first wall mural with my mother’s lipstick. Since my mother was a teaching artist, I had access to all kinds of wondrous things. The vivid inks and rich charcoals beckoned. Every stroke of color was pure joy. Canvas and paper too confining, I painted the walls all over the house. Eventually this abandon was tamed into mural and canvas art. On a recent visit to Sibley Hospital's pediatric oncology center I came across this cabinet. I painted it for them many years ago. When a child completes a certain phase of treatment, they get to choose a reward from the fun cabinet. Being an Artist is very rewarding.
