Ensuring your product is clean before applying conformal coating is crucial for optimal protection and performance. Here are the 5 essentials for success:

1. Understand Common Contaminants: Ionic contaminants can trigger short-circuits and corrosion whereas non-ionic contaminants prevent coating adherence.
2. Know the Origin of Contaminants: Ionic contaminants often originate from the manufacturing process or sweat, while non-ionic contaminants are usually organic materials.
3. Master Cleaning Techniques: Ionic contaminants are typically removed with pure water, non-ionic with solvents or surfactants.
4. Test for Contamination: Utilize the Resistivity of Solvent Extract (ROSE) method for detecting ionic contaminants, and conduct residue tests for identifying non-ionic ones.
5. Poor Preparation has its Consequences: Unclean devices can lead to insulation resistance degradation and increased labor costs.
