Now that cool weather is coming, it's a great time to visit MAUI! I'm a local retired Reno Firefighter and I own and manage 2 vacation rentals on Ka'anapali Beach and Lahaina. The "limited access" barriers were recently moved farther into Lahaina and that means no restrictions on hosting guests in my Puamana townhome that's just 200 feet from the ocean at the south end of Lahaina. In fact between now and October 23 you can stay for HALF the rate it was booking at before the fire. $350 a night plus fees and taxes for a luxury 2 bedroom 3 bath townhome with 2 large lanais and you can hear and see the ocean from inside. All of 2024 is booked at my Honua Kai ground floor 2/2 condominium home in Ka'anapali. I do have plenty of vacancy during whale season that goes through March and into April. My Puamana townhome is now part of the Green zone. It’s in Lahaina city limits but undamaged and access is not restricted (no more checkpoint, no placard required). I have plenty of availability this winter. I’m staying in it myself and the surf looks great and the community is very peaceful. Update 8/4 after lowering rates several times I have 22 bookings going forward which is above average. However, I STILL have a week coming up soon August 31 - September 6, 2024, and since last minute now offered at just $295 per night + fees and taxes. This is below my cost of ownership and less than 1/2 of what the average nightly rate has been for years. Take advantage!

I’m a retired/disabled firefighter and I own and manage the only GROUND FLOOR 2 bedroom 2 bath luxury condominium on the north side of the fabulous Honua Kai Resort & Spa on Ka'anapali Beach, which I believe is the best "condo-tel" property on Maui. Ka'anapali Beach is consistently rated one of the top 10 in the world and we're on the quiet side of it, north of Black Rock. This 5 star oceanfrony resort has acres of pools, a spa, an included gym, bell and valet service, concierge, and Duke's restaurant on site. If you've never stayed on the ground floor, you'll be hooked on not having to use elevators, plus you only get 11 foot high ceilings and your own yard on the ground floor. I list on VRBO and Airbnb but they charge a lot to act as middleman. You can save $ by booking direct at www.clevertrevor.net. Honua Kai is not a budget property, it's outrageously expensive to own, but I strive to beat my competition by offering the best vacation experience and best value for your buck in west Maui.

My Puamana townhome in south Lahaina is unburned and several families have returned to living there. The sewer services are back on and the water is on and safe to drink. I've blocked that calendar through September 22, 2024 and I'll be staying there myself before that time.

P.S. You may have heard that Maui is now initiating steps to phase out 7000 vacation rentals in certain apartment zoned areas on Maui starting July 1, 2025. If it happens, neither of my properties will be affected since they are zoned Hotel and Residential.

My Puamana townhome in south Lahaina is unburned but not yet inhabitable for guests although the cleanup of Lahaina has begun. I've been staying there since there are porta potties and water trailers. Sewer service has been restored and water is flowing but not yet certified for drinking, which is expected soon. I've blocked that calendar through the end of July 2024.

In May of 2024 Maui's Mayor proposed phasing out certain vacation rentals in apartment zones beginning in July 2025 to hopefully covert some of those properties to long term rentals - if it happens it WILL NOT affect my unit or any other unit in Honua Kai which is zoned Hotel. Honua Kai is much too expensive for long term tenancy which is why literally nobody lives or will live at this resort full time. It will also not affect my unit at Puamana, which is zoned residential and also is much too expensive for long term rentals. Tourism represents the vast majority of Maui's economy. This is beautiful. One of the reasons Maui is my favorite island is that Maui gets the most visits from humpback whales.
