Today is the first official day of the Arizona monsoon season! This is the season where we usually experience a significant increase in rainfall and thunderstorms. This season runs from June 15 to Sept. 30 each year…but those dates don’t necessarily mean rainy monsoon storm activity, here in Tombstone we typically get our first storms of the monsoon season in the first week of July…
🌤️🌤️
This is a great time to plan your visit to Tombstone Arizona and remember to pack your camera! The arrival of monsoon rains helps to cool down the desert temperatures, and provides refreshing moisture for our desert plants and wildlife. Get ready to witness nature's spectacular show as dark clouds converge, lightning flashes, and the desert comes alive with the exhilarating sound of thunder…We can’t forget to mention that the heavy monsoon clouds contribute just another magical layer of magnificent beauty to our already amazing sunsets!
🌤️🌤️
While there will be plenty photos of sunsets and rain to come, here is circa 1900 photo of Allen Street during Monsoon Season.

1. Tombstone, Arizona is famously known as "The Town Too Tough to Die." It got its nickname due to its reputation as a rough and lawless frontier town during the late 1800s.

2. Tombstone was founded in 1879 after a silver vein was discovered in the area. The mining boom attracted thousands of people, turning it into a bustling town.

3. The most famous event in Tombstone's history is the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, which took place on October 26, 1881. It was a shootout between lawmen (including Wyatt Earp) and a group of outlaws known as the Cochise County Cowboys. This event has been immortalized in movies and books.

4. Tombstone had a population of around 14,000 people at its peak in the 1880s. Today, it is a much smaller town with a population of around 1,500.

5. The Bird Cage Theatre, which operated from 1881 to 1889, was one of the wildest and most popular entertainment venues in Tombstone. It had a reputation for gambling, drinking, and illegal activities. Today, it is a museum and is purportedly haunted.

6. Tombstone is home to Boot Hill Cemetery, where many of the town's early pioneers, outlaws, and lawmen are buried. The cemetery got its name because many of the buried there died violently, often with their boots on.

7. The Tombstone Epitaph is the oldest continually published newspaper in Arizona. It was founded in 1880 and is still in operation today, reporting on local news and events.

8. The Allen Street District is the main street in Tombstone and is filled with historic buildings, shops, and restaurants. It has been preserved to look much like it did in the 1880s.
