Update 09/14/2020:

Hello fellow travelers and good friends! We hope all is well and everyone is staying healthy and safe during these unique and trying times. As some of you may already know, the current Corona virus situation in the United States has made it necessary for Historic Adventure Travel Tours to cancel or postpone the rest of our 2020 excursions. Some of these tours will be carried over and held into 2021. We do apologize for these changes, and value all our travel companions. Regardless of the current situation we all find ourselves in together, we do hope and expect that 2021 will look vastly different from 2020; and that next year’s tour season will include many exciting trips of interest to everyone! We would also like to thank everyone who ordered a limited-edition Historic Adventure Travel t-shirt. Look out for other similar limited run merchandise opportunities in the future!

With all of this said, Historic Adventure Travel Tours is currently very busy behind the scenes as we look forward into the future when we can all get together again and enjoy the fun of history and travel on board our tours. As always, we will be posting news and updates on Facebook and www.historicadventuretours.com for all our future travel plans. These plans will also include other exciting new ventures for Historic Adventure Travel to share with you in the coming months, as we hit the ground running into 2021 and beyond!

Feel free to share the excitement of Historic Adventure Travel with your friends and family to spread the word until the day we finally start our 2021 travel season and explore this great country together once again!

Several modifications and changes will be made on our tours for the rest of the year, to ensure the safety and well-being of every passenger that joins us on board the bus with Historic Adventure Travel Tours. Some of these safety precautions will include:

• 50% capacity on our buses for our 2020 travel season
• Temperatures taken before departure on the first day of
each trip (easy to use forehead temperature reading)

• Face mask requirements in place (based upon CDC
recommendations at time of trip)
• Hand sanitizer available on board bus
• Pre-packaged, individually wrapped food and beverage
snacks only

In addition, our tour schedule has been slightly changed and modified for this year. All of these changes are reflected within our updated tour schedule available on our website, page and mailings going out in the next week to our regular travelers.

Update 5/6/2020

Hello fellow adventure travelers and good friends! As always, we hope everyone is safe and doing well. We are all dealing with the current Corona virus outbreak situation together as one big family. It’s difficult for us all to not see friends and family, go out to dinner, go shopping and basically just go about our daily lives as we would like. This is true of our travel and vacation life as well. It is also true that we cannot yet predict exactly when our lives will be getting back to normal. With all of that said, and in an attempt to be proactive and responsive to the current situation that we all find ourselves in, we are announcing another update and revised 2020 tour schedule that will be outlined below:

A) All tours for the months of May through August 2020 have been cancelled with the exception of one tour reschedule as of this update. The canceled tours include “Riding Mountain National Park”, “Cabaret at The Guthrie Theater”, and “On to Richmond: A Virginia Battlefield Tour”. We have also decided to reschedule our “Historic Adventure Travel’s First Mystery Tour” to August 10-11, 2020. These changes are a major portion of our tour season. However, we are taking these actions as part of a proactive effort to adapt to our current situation and above all else, be safe. Many of these cancelled tours will be rescheduled to our 2021 travel season, as we know many of you have been excited to visit those travel destinations with us. If you have made any deposits or full payments for any of these trips, you will automatically be receiving those payments back in full with this letter. Or upon request; you are also able to have those deposits transferred to one of our other tours that are part of our updated travel schedule later this year.

B) In light of these changes, our tours going out in September through December will remain on schedule and remain open for registrations at this time. These still on schedule excursions include the “Pioneer Trails and Old West Tales Tour”, “Fall Color Tour: Galena, Illinois & Rock River Falls Colors Gala”, “Polar Bear Express: Expedition to Churchill” and our “2020 Christmas Tour” (TBA). There will be more information on all of these later season tours within an updated 2020 flier arriving in the mail to you all shortly. In regard to our late summer tour and beyond, we will be keeping close track of, and following the recommendations and guidelines of the CDC, health professionals and experts to make our bus tours a safe environment for everyone.

This decision is difficult for many reasons, but knowing that it is made for the overall safety of everyone makes it the right thing to do at this time. We value the health and safety of our travelers above all else! We want to thank you for the understanding and support we have always received in the past, and continue to receive today from all of our travel friends and explorers during these trying times. Your support into the future is important to us, and we will all come out of this on the other side strong, healthy and optimistic about the future ahead! We look forward to yet another time on a sunny morning soon, when we can all see each other's smiling faces boarding the coach as we set off on another Historic Adventure Travel excursion with good friends!

Stay Safe,

John Grabko and Historic Adventure Travel

Update 3/19/2020

Historic Adventure Travel Tours has been closely monitoring current events surrounding the Corona virus, and we have made some updates to our 2020 travel season as we continue to monitor the situation:

Historic Adventure Travel is first and foremost, committed to the health and safety of our family of travelers and we have been closely monitoring current events of the past several weeks. In an attempt to be proactive and communicate with our travelers related to the Corona Virus and current recommendations of the CDC and the Minnesota Department of Health, we have decided to make the following changes in our 2020 tour schedule as we continue to monitor the situation:

1. The Mystery Tour scheduled for May 18-19, 2020 will be re-scheduled to July 13-14, 2020.
2. The Door County Wisconsin Cheese Tour scheduled for July 12-14, 2020 has been cancelled.

These changes will alter our tour season to now begin with the “Riding Mountain National Park” tour on June 14-18, 2020. We hope and expect that this year’s travel season will be cleared by State and National Health authorities by this time. We will of course, continue to monitor the current situation and adapt to developments and recommendations as time goes on. Any further adjustments in the schedule will also be announced as early as possible by mail and by personal phone calls. In addition, it will be our policy to clean and disinfect all hard and plastic surfaces on board the
motor coaches after each day of travel on any of our trips as further precautions from this point forward, once our travel season commences again.

We hope that you will continue to support Historic Adventure Travel Tours. We look forward to sharing quality time and excursions with you far into the future, as we put this current serious challenge behind us for our nation and traveling family!

A strange coincidence occurred as the Lewis & Clark expedition made their way near modern day Yellowstone National Park. As they came onto the lands of the Shoshone Tribe, Lewis & Clark needed supplies and housing. The women of the Shoshone Tribe were more inclined to do away with the expedition permanently. In response, Lewis & Clark’s interpreter Sacagawea stepped up (a Shoshone herself, having been kidnapped 5 years earlier by a hostile tribe). And so, by coincidence and beyond compare, she recognizes the Shoshone chief as her long-lost brother! And in response, the expedition was spared and they received their supplies and housing.

The expedition lasted two and a half years and spanned 8000 miles with the loss of only one man, Sergeant Charles Floyd.

In August, we will follow the footsteps of the Corp of Discovery on an early leg of their expedition up the Missouri River. Who says that The Great American Adventure is a thing of the past?!?

19/04/2017

The Old West of 1876

Coincidence? Maybe, but there is no denying that the summer of that year was one not to be forgotten! First, in infamous chronological order was the hot morning of June 25th on the rolling hills, plains and river valley known to the Lakota and Cheyenne as the Greasy Grass. Better known to others as the Little Big Horn Valley. On this day, Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer was to ride into a large Lakota and Cheyenne village and into the history books! Next, scarcely one month later, on August 25, 1876 in the unruly mining town of Deadwood in the Dakota Territory, another chapter in the history of the old west was written. On this day, through the muddy streets, former lawman and gunslinger Wild Bill Hickok sauntered into his favorite poker establishment Saloon #10 on main street. Holding a hand of ace’s and eight’s, Wild Bill made his last bet! This forever becoming known as the Dead Man’s Hand! Another chapter in the story of the west in 1876 came about in September. September 7th to be exact! Not a lucky number for the dusty nefarious lot of men. Icons of the west they were, rode into the seemingly sleepy Minnesota town of Northfield with eyes on the First National Bank! The sleepy town awakened quickly and in the aftermath, the James Gang had ridden their last day together! Within a six week period the Old West of 1876 had claimed a hero of the Civil War, an iconic lawman of the old west and the most notorious outlaw gang of their time. Rarely since, have so many chapters in history been written in such a short space of time… it’s one for the history books!

Much of this unique history and much more can be found in our 2017 tours!
