Four small-ship cruise companies may still be able to sai because they carry fewer than 100 passengers or do not use Canadia ports. The travel industry received some very good news recently, as Pfizer and Moderna reported that data for their COVID vaccines indicate effective rates of 95% and 94.5%, respectively. Both companies expect these vaccines to be authorized for use in December, and other vaccines are close behind in the testing and approval process.

While cruising has not yet restarted for most travelers around the world, vaccine distribution will speed up the rate at which countries open their borders to international visitors and ships are allowed to resume sailing. We will let you know when cruise lines are operating again.

Keeping cruise ships clean and sanitary is a top priority for CLIA member cruise lines. Cruise ship crews clean and sanitize surfaces known for transmitting germs, multiple times throughout the day, such as handrails, door handles and faucets. At the end of a voyage and before a new one begins, ships are cleaned completely prior to the arrival of new passengers. CLIA cruise lines also help to educate cruise passengers on personal health and safety practices. Cruise passengers are reminded to wash their hands regularly and hand sanitizers are readily available in public locations. While this longstanding cruise line practice may sound minor, COVID-19 has reaffirmed the critical importance of hand hygiene to protecting public health.

In the past few days, nearly every cruise line has suspended sailings worldwide, for periods ranging from 30 to 60 days. The shutdown became inevitable as the global spread of COVID-19 put ships in danger of quarantine and as countries around the world placed severe restrictions on the arrival of international travelers.

I am working with our cruise line partners to process your cancellations and rebooking requests. Many customers have chosen future cruise credits; FCC's. I will be available to help you rebook when the industry reboots. There is no rush to use these FCCs; the cruise industry will know more as our peak crisis is on the down side. I sincerely apologize for any inconveniences.

COVID-19 is the biggest challenge the cruise industry has ever faced but cruising is the highest-rated vacation option and by far the easiest and most cost-effective way to see the world. The industry will recover from this massive disruption;
