Great Kiskadees love to use their bright colors and loud "kis-kuh-dee" calls to make their presence known. They put their flashy nature to use in order to alert other birds to the presence of any nearby predators. In the US, this charismatic bird can only be found regularly in Texas, which represents the northern extent of this species' range.

Burrowing Owls are one of few owl species that are frequently active throughout the day. When threatened, these birds have been known to imitate the rattling of a rattlesnake. In winter, these Owls disperse across much of Texas where they can be found residing in anything resembling a burrow, including man-made structures such as culverts.

The White-tailed Hawk is named aptly for its brilliant white tail which can often be seen in flight. This species inhabits grasslands where it feeds on a diverse array of prey including mammals, birds, reptiles, and invertebrates. In the US this species is restricted to Coastal and South Texas.
