Up a cane river to wash my dread
Upon a rock I rest my head
There I vision through the seas of oppression
Don't make my life a prison

DON DRUMMOND (1932 - 1969)

Regarded as Jamaica’s best trombonist in his time, Don Drummond’s life and music continue to marvel. A product of the Alpha Boys School, Drummond was born in 1932. His musical talent became evident while at Alpha where he spent seven years (1943-50) occasionally performing at venues such as Bournemouth in the Eric Deans All Stars Band.

In 1962, he joined the Skatalites and from then on became a household name. The Skatalites were regarded as one of the most important bands during the ska era of Jamaican music. Among their repertoire of songs is Addis Abba, Far East, Schooling the Duke and Confucius. Drummond however, suffered from mental illness which necessitated frequent stays at the Bellevue Mental Hospital.

On January 2, 1965, Drummond killed his lover at the time Anita “Margarita” Mahfood; reportedly in a fit of jealous rage. At his trial the judge ruled him a criminal lunatic. After a few days at the General Penitentiary he was transferred to Bellevue where he died in 1969; his death was ruled a su***de.

Up in the Hills of East Rural St. Andrew lies a place called Friendship Brook which was like the settlement of people in that area. A school was started in the church there .

My Grandmother attended that school and my father after her. Later, the school was moved to its present location.

I was a past student there along with my children. All together, we are four generations of past students.

My recent visit to the school inspired me to start something that will benefit the school in some ways, hence this page .

Photographs from JAHJAH Foundation's Mission for Change 2015, January 18 - 24, 2015. We were very busy during this week, helping Jamaica with healthcare and other issues, in keeping with our overall mission.

Some of the things we did include: Ultra sound conference, Knutsford Court Hotel, Kingston; Healing in the Dancehall at Uptown Mondays, Savannah Plaza, Kingston; Pediatric Cancer Conference, in association with Columbia University In The City of New York and Bustamante Hospital for Children, Knutsford Court Hotel, Kingston; One Love, One Heart, Health Checks, CPR training, and lectures on good nutrition for athletes from St. Jago High School, Vere Technical High School, GC Foster College, and St. Andrew Technical High School, done in collaboration with Team Jamaica Bickle at Knutsford Court Hotel, Kingston; Completing and participating in handing over ceremony for Wellness Suite at Hanbury Home, Manchester; and conducting all-day Health Fair at Ulster Spring Clinic, Trelawny. We were guests of Team Jamaica Bickle at the launch event for Jamaica Stock Exchange's 10th annual wealth and investment expo, where some of our members had a photo op with Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller. Some of our members also had photo ops with Jamaican reggae artistes Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Nesbeth, and Richie Stephens during Healing in the Dancehall at Uptown Mondays.

A special thank you to all our volunteers, who worked tirelessly to make our mission a success. And a big thank you to Tropical Blue Natural Spring Water, our Jamaican sponsor.

These photographs are intended to give an overview of our mission at work. We will be posting many more photographs from each event/project soon. We will also post videos. Thank you for supporting us, as we help to improve healthcare in Jamaica.
