The Baxter Building at 619 Congress Street is a Portland treasure with a rich history. Originally designed by Francis H. Fassett as a Romanesque Revival-style library, it served as Portland’s public library from 1888 to 1978. Later owned by the Maine College of Art, it evolved into a creative hub before being leased to the VIA Agency by Northland Enterprises. This architectural gem remains a vibrant part of the Congress Street Historic District today.
