Came home for the holidays with an extra suitcase full of sake for some VIP guests - Tonight I took those bottles over to their house and hosted a special sake tasting for their Hanukkah party.

Everyone went crazy over the sake and needless to say, the tasting was a smash hit!

If you’re in the LA area and interested in having a sake tasting party for you and your loved ones, please feel free to send a message.

Happy Hanukkah to everyone celebrating! 🕎

Move over cookies! Unlike many western nations, where Christmas is centered around candy canes and gingerbread cookies, in Japan, cake reigns supreme.

Beautiful layers of white cream adorning a fluffy cake with plump strawberries atop has long been the image of Japanese Christmas confectionary and it all started in 1922 when the owner of a now famous patisserie called Fujiya decided to sell Christmas cakes.

While stateside, patisserie owner, Fujii Rinemon, had eaten a dessert called strawberry shortcake, composed of two scones filled with cream and fresh strawberries. Fujii was fascinated but felt that the crunchy scones would not be well suited to the Japanese palate. Instead, he chose to make his shortcake out of a sponge cake, drawing on the ever-fashionable castella cake, another local interpretation on western (this time Portuguese) dessert which emerged in the late 1500s. His resulting creation, using the fresh cream and strawberries of the American shortcake, but atop a soft spongy cake, was the first strawberry shortcake sold in Japan and it’s now more popular than ever at Christmastime.

Hoping everyone had a wonderful Christmas! What desserts did you enjoy this year!??

Today was a specially curated private tour for a hardcore vintage watch enthusiast and a photography focused vintage camera lover to shop at some real hidden gems for vintage watches and cameras.

Of course we had to start the morning off with a fun snack…

Photo’d here is Imakawa-Yaki.
Its similar to a flufiy pancake/donut sandwich filled with azuki red bean paste... but at this specialty shop, there were many other fun fillings such as cream cheese, a savory sausage one, and apple cream.

We covered a ton of ground today so there was no time for any other photos, but I did manage to get a snap of one of the most stunning watches I’ve ever seen!
😍🤑

Such a fun day! 📸🕰️👜

Handmade soba doesn’t get any better than this!

On tonight’s food tour, we went to my ultimate favorite soba spot. They serve this unique rendition of a tsuke dipping soba, similar to a rich ramen soup made of pork bone broth and black pepper. Add a bit of lemon and the whole thing just sings in your mouth!

As you approach the end of your meal, they bring in some soba-yu (hot water the soba was cooked in), which you add to the dipping sauce and enjoy it as a soup. Perfection!

Have you ever seen such a beautiful piece of tamago sushi?!?

Tonight’s omakase course was full of surprises. Everything from the aka g*i (red clam), to the seasonal buri (which I didn’t even take a picture of because I ate it so fast) was incredible.

Also worth mentioning is Chef Yuta - the sweetest guy who made our experience so special.

Chef and I discussed fun ways to offer a sushi making experience combined with a beautiful omakase course so that you can enjoy both a hands on experience along with a delicious meal.

If you’re interested in this during your next trip to Japan, please feel free to send a DM!

Not sure I’ve ever been handed a dessert menu that was 90% gelato - all of which were exceedingly creative concoctions and all of which, I needed to try!

Working backwards from dessert…
1. a mascarpone gelato with fresh strawberries and rose over an airy sponge cake, which ate like princess food
2. hojicha gelato topped with persimmon compote which ate like a sweet earth bomb
3. Fried Lily bulb croquette in a basil and hairy crab soup.
4. Exceptional Chardonnay from La Morra
5. Buttery al dente handmade pasta with matsutake mushrooms, and pancetta
6. A very elegant orange wine from Follia
7. Fried polenta bites
8. The Dolce menu in all its perfection

Tonight’s meal at .tokyo was exactly what we needed…
Comforting, oh so satisfying, and so enjoyable. Not only amazing food, but the cutest and sweetest staff that made us feel all the warm fuzzies on a very cold night 💕

Presenting Italian cuisine from Milan, Altar Ego has made an impact not only in its neighborhood of Jimbocho, but all over Japan. The restaurant is owned by a famous and extremely successful chef, Yoju Tokuyoshi, who is the first-ever Japanese person to earn a Michelin star for his restaurant in Italy. It’s little wonder that his restaurant here in Tokyo was also awarded a Michelin star as well.

Last weekend’s food trip to Kyoto was full of exquisite dinner courses lasting for hours and grandiose sights of fall foliage.

Happy Thanksgiving from Tokyo! Here’s our ramen dressed tablescape and a batch of classy pumpkin spiced cocktails, to keep up with my favorite yearly tradition.

This could not be a more perfect ramen for the holiday - a deep velvety gravy-ish chicken broth topped with tender steamed chicken and colorful fall veggies.

Hope everyone and their loved ones had a yummy holida, Cheers!

Had a fantastic omakase sushi course during Saturday’s food tour…

This is a pretty well-known spot in Nakameguro, but the thing that’s become very appealing to me regarding this spot is that they can accommodate a vegan sushi course!

Definitely need to try it out soon, but it’s so hard for me to pass up on all the delicious fish! - especially that first bite, which is a tempura battered piece of nori topped with delicious, melt-in-your-mouth uni from Hokkaido

Anyone coming to Tokyo who is interested in doing a vegan omakase sushi course?
Let me know!

I may have ordered the most “Easter” looking dessert, but make no mistake, is the perfect setting for an elegant, Christmasy dinner in the very festive area of Ebisu. Do not miss the lights!
So pretty ✨

What the world needs now is more beefcakes and happy birthdays!

This was such a special night celebrating love, family, old friends, and life!

Coming to Japan for your birthday?
A customized evening tour with Wagyu definitely illicits a beefcake!

Behold, the incredible Shima Wagyu Sando and all its sexy angles…

Raise your hand if you’ve tried it!?

My favorite part about taking home a Shima Sando (besides the obvious deliciousness) is the bag it comes in. Shima San designed it using a picture one of his sons drew when he was a young boy, and I just think that is the sweetest! Such gorgeous use of colors. 🎨

Kushiage (deep fried meat and veggie skewers) is one of the most underrated Japanese food groups (in my humble opinion). When executed correctly, it is actually very light and delicate, savory and delectably delightful. I love how each course always features seasonal vegetables and seafood, while also serving a special bite or two of wagyu and pork (usually wrapped around asparagus).

1. Uni over fried nori
2. Wagyu over fried bread
3. Shiitake
4. Toro on top of a fried rice ball!!! 🤤
5. Fresh water plant
6. Kurumae shrimp

On my most recent food tour in Ginza, I featured this high end Kushiage restaurant, which was a huge hit! Each skewer is prepared in front of you and served omakase style. Total Perfection! 🤌🏼

Nothing better than a fun night of izakaya hopping in Shibuya!

1. Green beans stacked in a black sesame sauce
2. Renkon and miso niku
3. The candiest of sweet tomatoes
4. Incredible rendition of cream cheese coated in miso and torched!!!
5. Anago torched and topped with a delectable egg sauce
6. Fun assortment of pickles
7. Chopsticks using a cinnamon stick as a chopstick rest - very clever!
8. Mochi harumaki 🤤

Fruit just hits different in Japan…
especially at the end of a beautiful omakase sushi course.

If you ever have the chance to try mango from Miyakojima, it’ll blow your mind away.
I promise.
