Forrest reports: "IN-freaking-CREDIBLE!!! First day of our tailor made tour to Rondonia and, unfortunately, we peaked early in the most spectacular fashion: A mated pair of Nocturnal Curassow greeted us at our boats!!!
This beautiful mythical creature is infrequently heard booming from atop an emergent tree, in the dead of night, deep in Amazonian forest. There are a few diurnal photos that surface, from time to time, from strategically placed camera traps.
This….THIS mind-boggling encounter with such a rare and lovely bird will be hard to top. Cue…White-tailed Tityra? More to come from our merry band of bird-fanatic friends that converged on Brazil from Africa and America, to explore this little-known region of Amazonia."

The Pel's Fishing-Owl is the largest of the three members in the Scotopelia genus. It is found in many river systems in Sub-Saharan Africa, but even in ideal habitats they are seldom seen due to their secretive nature.
They hunt from a perch just above the water, gracefully gliding down to snatch fish from surface.

Bobby reports: After a hot tip on some Condors from a generous local, our excited group backtracked a few miles down the highway to find a group of 25 magnificent Andean Condors feasting on a carcass less than 200m off the road! As they slowly flushed and began to soar above us, our group of keen photographers got some serious trigger finger exercise and we eventually had to walk away and leave them to their lunch.

Although their horn may not be as long as other well-known species of rhino, Greater one-horned rhinos have very long lower incisor teeth that can be used in fighting to inflict deep wounds. A males’ teeth can grow up to 8 cm long!

Fairly common in remnant rainforest, secondary forest, gardens, and plantations on the island of Mayotte, in the Comoros. The remarkable vocalization of this species is a series of several low-pitched hollow hoots, captured here by Daniel. Sometimes active and vocal during the day, especially the early morning and late afternoon, they are easily identified, as the only other owl on Mayotte is the much larger Barn Owl.
