A perfect museum day in Paris! We visted the Museum Orsay where there is a lovely Impressionist exhibit. Monet, Manet, Degas, Van Gogh to name a few & also a tribute to the Paris Exposition (World’s Fair 1874). So much to see and do! The ladies had time for last day shopping, too! Their London/Paris tour ended with a French picnic in The Luxembourg Gardens. The annual Fete de Musica all across Paris began with all genres of music in parks, churches and on street corners. Au revoir ladies! You were perfect travelers!

Where did we have dinner in Paris? It was a wonderful evening dinner in the Eiffel Tower! Several courses with wine and great views. The sun has been elusive but we did get a glance of it just as it was time to say au revoir to the daylight! A perfect way to celebrate the summer solstice!

A lovely walk and tour through Montmartre with a great storytelling guide. It is wonderful to have the passionate guides we have had on this tour. There is always so much to learn and appreciate.

Bienvenue à Paris with a champagne tasting on the Seine! It was a great welcome to Paris! A professional sommelier treated us to different varietals of champagne and a bit of history as we coasted..Notre Dame isn’t quite ready but after 5 years of reconstruction, she is coming back into her own! The opening is scheduled for December 2024. The city is preparing for the 2024 Olympic games. It is organized chaos! The Seine is lined with stadium seating, barricades and traffic jams. For the first time in history, opening game veremonies will take place on a river! Understanding the history of Paris began with a tour of the Crypt of Archaeology—- amazing finds were uncovered & it is all quite interesting. If you haven’t seen the beautiful stained glass at Saint Chapelle, it is a must! Built in about 800– yes, 800–it is a royal chapel in the Gothic style. It was the residence of the Kings of France until the 14th century, on the Île de la cite. The stained glass windows are incredibly beautiful and extra so when the sunshine beams through but today….. mother nature was taking a break! After our own break from walking, we did a Le Marais food tour. It was such a wonderful way to explore on foot, learn some history and nosh along the way. We all got our steps in! Some more than others because there was a late afternoon visit to Luxembourg Gardens. The locals were out in full force catching some rays. It was a delight to finally see the sunand the beautiful gardens were an extra bonus. 😎

What a serendipitous day!
We explored City of Westminster, London's royal and political heart, seeing the top "must see" attractions starting with the Palace of Westminster (better known as the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben), an iconic Victorian masterpiece overlooking the river Thames, home of Parliament and site of 1,000 years of living history. From there we explored the exterior of Westminster Abbey, the royal church famous for coronations and royal weddings, then strolled down the centre of government on Whitehall. Whitehall is where the country is actually governed, lined with government ministries and 10 Downing Street, and marked by the Cenotaph national war memorial. We stopped to take in the very handsome horses guarding Horse Guards, the official entrance to the royal precincts, and saw Trooping of the Colour & the parade ground took place. Strolling to Trafalgar Square, the geographical and emotional heart of London, was lovely on a beautiful sunny day!
In Trafalgar Square we took the opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee and rest our legs, before hopping on a vintage double decker bus east to the City of London. We had the bus to ourselves & it was fabulous!
The City of London is the oldest part of London, where the city began almost 2,000 years ago as Roman Londinium. Today it is the financial district or "square mile", home to the bank of England and numerous banks and financial services companies. Modern glass skyscrapers such as the Gherkin and Cheesegrater provide a wonderful juxtaposition with medieval alleyways, 17th century Wren churches and 18th and 19th century grand public buildings. Then onto Tower Hill with the Tower of London & a walk to St. Katherine’s boat docks where we had a lovely lunch. How did we end our day? Wait until the next post! Loving London with Her Dream Vacation!

We covered 500 years of history at Hampton Court Palace today—-with the most enthusiastic & fabulous guide: Caroline. This amazing palace is really 2 palaces in one! First built by Cardinal Wolsey in 1514, it is home to Henry VIII's apartments, where so much of Henry's history with his many wives actually took place— and the stories of illegitimate children & mistresses— had us shaking our heads. You really felt like you were walking in the footsteps of history with the wonderful storytelling. The Tudor kitchens are the largest of their kind and were a real food factory—-Feeding 600 people each day!
We explored the Tudor palace to the remodelled baroque palace built 1700. In the King's Apartments you can go back to the reign of William III at the end of the 17th century, and the Queen's Apartments take you back to the 1720s and the glittering court of George II and Queen Caroline.
Hampton Court also houses some of the best and most famous art from the Royal Collection, from the collection of paintings known as the “Windsor Beauties” and “Hampton Court Beauties”, to a changing selection of masters (a self-portrait by Rembrandt, Canalettos etc) in the Cumberland Gallery. It was amazing to see these works.
Then we spent time exploring the MAGNIFICENT gardens. They were absolutely beautiful! There are 60 acres of formal gardens, Privy Gardens, the oldest grape vine in the world, a Rose Garden and a Maze which was quite fun!
Lots of movies filmed in this great palace & gardens. Are you a Bridgerton fan? 😎

A visit to Kensington Palace isn’t complete unless you have afternoon tea at The Orangerie. It was a great way to end our royal day after participating in His Majesty’s birthday parade.

So, it begins in London—- after settling in, a guick walkabout to get familiar— and a pub lunch, the ladies could let go of their travel woes in arriving. We began the tour with a jazz cruise on the Thames River. Our lovely hotel, which is home for four days, is quite plush and set in an old Victorian mansion. Wait until you see what we are doing next!

Honor and remember Memorial Day for it’s truest meaning. As travelers, we can appreciate the freedoms we have——that so many others —do not have from their own countries. Those countries which we sometimes visit.

Why with Her Dream Vacation?
I am constantly being asked what differentiates what I do from other tour operators... Not a "tour operator' is the first answer.
Traveling with Her Dream Vacation is an experience focused around taking care of YOU. Final decisions are made with you and your interests in mind. Itineraries are thoughtful, creative and the cultural offerings, unique. This is not an ordinary tour experience where the tour leader is holding fast and true to a schedule without allowing changes. It is not a tour bus filled with travelers following a flag or using ear phones nor a tour for the drive by opportunity to take a photo. We immerse, engage and have fun!

The tradition of puppet shows in Sicily is still being carried on. It is an ancient art form and very special. The Sicilian Puppet Theatre we attended was in a small intimate theatre. The puppets were animated by, behind the stage “puppeteers”. It was in Sicilian, dramatic & entertaining. The show represented the exploits of the greatest medieval heroes…and the struggle with morality. The puppets are built with the greatest of craftsmanship-shiny armour and precious fabrics. After the show, we visited the puppet mueum with a HUGE cast of characters and previous sets. Immersing in Sicily!

Yesterday was pretty amazing! We arrived in Hoi An the night before —- With the long travel day, then after travel
massages— we were just done and couldn’t explore. So, we started the next day with a cooking class. Four courses. We traveled by boat to a small village. We met the matriarch of the family, her grandaughter, several cousins and aunts. It was AMAZING! We all loved it. The food was fabulous & we learned a lot! After returning by boat, the other ladies headed back to the hotel but I carried on. I visited a might market, listened to great music and enjoyed the spectacular light show pn the canal! 😎 The night lights and energy of Hoi An is incredible! I LOVE Hoi An & am looking forward to the next visit! Join me? #hoian #vietnam #herdreamvacation
