Off Christmas light season and upgrading all light sets. Warm white faceted bulbs. The bottom three sets are of the LED bulbs we currently use. Very bottom is the oldest type and then they get newer as you go up. The top set is the new bulbs we are upgrading everything to, Platinum Elite. They are noticeably much brighter than the other three types of bulbs. Even with the remarkable brightness, they still only use 15 watts per 25 bulbs. The other types use between 15 and 18 per 25 bulbs.

Currently a very powerful solar storm is going on. How does that affect Christmas lights? Solar storms bombard the earth with electrons, among other things. These excess electrons are picked up in wires and can cause issues. In the 1859 Carrington event, surges were so bad that telegraph machines were set on fire!
We don't have to worry about fires now with fuses, circuit breakers, GFCI protectors, and surge suppressors. BUT, the surges can cause fuses to blow unexpectedly and GFCI protectors to trip.

I was asked "What happens if lightning strikes the LED lights sets on a house? Do they catch fire?". I didn't know!! So I blew some up yesterday, simulating a lightning hit. They got really bright then went out. No fires or even smoke.

Ladder painting time! 3 coats of high quality enamel paint. This is to seal the ladders and reduce the fiberglass bloom that last year made the ladders feel like hugging a cactus when using them. 3 ladders done. 2 to go.
