European Adventure!
Have you thought about going on a European river cruise, but didn't know what the experience would be like? I am going to 2 river cruise expos
in Amsterdam, where I will tour and eat on ships from 12 different cruise lines (sleeping on 3 of them). I will then do a river cruise from Amsterdam to Belgium, travel through Germany, Czech Republic, and take another river cruise on the Danube from Budapest to Vilshofen, Germany!

The Virgin Voyages ships all look the same, which makes it easy when you sail on different ships. A couple tips - there are no "maps" that are easily found, just signage showing on which deck things are located (watch out for the dead ends!) but you can ask for a deck plan at Sailor Services (Guest Services). At the port, there are towels that you can take with you so you don't have to take from in your room. Want more tips? Contact me!

I don't usually post photos of cabin bathrooms, but this one was unique. We upgraded to the XL Sea Terrace, so when you walk into the bathroom area on one side is a sink, and on the other side 2 doors - one for the shower and one for the toilet. SO easy to have 2 people in that area at one time! I would definitely go XL Sea Terrace from now on!

My stateroom on the Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady was set up as one bed when we arrived, but we requested it be split into two beds. Instead of just pulling them apart, the second bed is actually turned sideways, which gives much more space in the stateroom.

When I searched for tips on VV ships, one of the things I saw frequently was people posting that they never made it to, or didn’t visit often enough, the Dock. It’s at the back of the ship on deck 7, so a little awkward to get to, but a great area with unique food options. You can select from items on their cart, or order from the menu and they will bring the food to you.

On VV ships, there is no main dining room. There are 6 “specialty dining” restaurants, and they are all included at no charge, but you do have to make reservations. There is also The Galley, which is pretty much a combination between a food court and a buffet. There are different stations – Bento Box (including sushi), the Daily Mix (salad), Burger Bar, and Diner & Dash (breakfast all day). and for limited hours tacos, noodle station, and paninis.

What's on today's agenda on @FreedomoftheSeas? Day at sea, 2pm Ice show, 6pm Chops Grille (premium steakhouse)! What? You didn't know there was an ice skating rink on this cruise ship (and many other Royal Caribbean ships)? You can also rent skates yourself (don't forget to bring a pair of socks)!

Driving the "I-95 corridor"? Why don't you let someone else "take" your car for 1000 miles so you don't have to drive? Amtrak's Auto Train - your car is loaded into a rail car and you board by 2:30pm, train leaves at 4pm, and arrives the next morning around 9am, all while you relaxed and had dinner and enjoyed some sleep! The Auto Train, operating between Lorton, Virginia, and Sanford, Florida, is the longest passenger train in the world with 40 cars, some for passengers and some for automobiles. Furthermore, it makes no stops and averages 50 mph throughout the 855-mile trip. When I traveled on May 24, there were 433 people on board with 269 vehicles. There were 2 cars filled with vehicles, and 4 cars filled with people. It can hold up to 650 people and 330 vehicles. My two European river cruises (Paris to Normandy on the Seine, and Frankfurt to Amsterdam on the Rhine) were my two favorite vacations with my husband. Our family cruise in Alaska and our 3-week European trip tie for favorite family vacations.
