Transparent moment:
I have rarely gone organized excursions when I cruise. I am not a fan of following someone else’s schedule when I travel so one of my favorite things to do is road trips or renting a car when I cruise. Traveling solo makes renting a car in a port a bit more risky, even for me. So in San Juan, I opted for a self guided walking tour. Several years ago, I came across an amazing app for those road trips called guide along. In the guide along app this guy (we named him Jim, although I don’t think that is his name) gives you driving directions controlled by a GPS and tells you the history, geology, and fun facts about where you’re driving. We have found some real gems with . For San Juan today, I used for a self guided walking tour around the city. He ( Joe in the know, as I will call him) gave me a starting spot near the pier, told me when to turn left or right and what street to go down while giving me history lessons, great stories, and places to make sure I didn’t miss. I can’t recommend either one of these enough.

There’s nothing quite as good as an ice cold water in one hand and yummy gelato in the other, whilst strolling the tiny streets of San Juan in the heat.

Ice cream is my favorite food, don’t burst my bubble and say it’s not really food and I always try it out when I travel. This one would rank in the top 10 for sure.

How do you feel about solo traveling?
This week I embark on Holland America’s Nieuw Amsterdam all by myself. For someone who’s used to traveling with family or friends this is a new experience, one that I have mixed feelings about. Let’s be honest, sometimes spending time with yourself with a little intimidating and finding other people who wanna hang out with the solo traveler can be as well. Lucky for me they have solo traveler meet and greets and this jewel that I found, the library! And no, it’s not just the name of a bar or a hangout place. It is a real true live library with books of all sorts that you can check out for the week. I am not an avid reader but I will be taking advantage of this this week!
