Historic Skagit moment! This photo was taken in August 1930 when Seattle City Light dedicated the Diablo Dam. At the time the construction concluded, the dam was the tallest dam in the world, standing at 389 feet.

In the North Cascades where the Skagit Hydroelectric Project is, snow has already fallen and with it comes enough precipitation to extinguish the remnants of the Sourdough Fire.

UPDATE: Prioritizing the safety of participants and staff, Skagit Tours have been canceled for the remainder of the season, including the Fall Morning Cruises set to start in mid-September, due to the ongoing Sourdough Fire. Staff from the North Cascades Institute will be reaching out to those with existing reservations with next steps.

The wildfire is currently 6,171 acres and is 25% contained. The State Route 20 North Cascade Highway is closed at Newhalem from milepost 120 to milepost 171 as multiple wildfires continue to burn in the area. There is no ETA for reopening at this time. Please do not disregard closures, they are in place for your safety and the safety of our crews and firefighters.
