We choose our travel companions for so many kinds of experiences. Adventures abroad, a life-long friendship, short-lived romances, and partners in crime… but our siblings, our parents, our children?
It is one perspective of many but the beauty of this way of looking at our relationships and adventures is almost too striking to ignore. Is there a divine agreement of sorts that occurs beyond time and space, a love contract? A learning contract? One that obliges us to find one another? Would each connection and experience, regardless of how difficult and or fulfilling, be assigned in its unique way to guide us through a necessary task of the soul?
Traveling through life with these two reminds me of how timeless a connection can feel. Ever have that sense that you know a person more deeply than time and the given life circumstances would seem to permit?
And what I really wanted to say here, is that I am eternally grateful for the flow of adventure, the resting, the diversion, and even the getting lost with these two travel companions who found me here,

Over the years, we have presented dozens of menu variations and recipes from Aurelio’s kitchen in Lucca but the ever present and magical ingredient is human connection. Each guest brings a unique dose of enjoyment to the table and SESTO has been blessed by so many of you.

Aurelio, a homegrown chef and winemaker, comes from the historic trattoria in Lucca, L’Antica Locanda di Sesto. The locanda dates back to 1368 and has been his family’s home for over a century. Andee, a native of California with a background in travel, education, and food culture, is the founder of Traveling Native, a travel company specializing in culinary experiences in Italy and the U.S. Aurelio and Andee have been connecting North Americans to Lucca’s food culture since 2009.

Via Appia Antica

The Appian Way, known as "Via Appia" in Latin, is one of the earliest and strategically most important Roman roads of the ancient republic. It connected Rome to Brindisi, in southeast Italy, and was named after Appius Claudius Caecus, the Roman censor who initiated the road's construction in 312 BCE. Its original purpose was to serve as a military and economic route, but it eventually became a pathway for Roman expansion throughout the Italian peninsula. Today, parts of the Appian Way have been preserved and are recognized for their historical significance.
