Jayleen's Alaska Hi! My name is Jayleen Beedle, I am the owner/operator of Jayleen's Alaska. At that time I started running myself around the inside passages in Juneau, Alaska.
(52)

Voted Juneau's #1 Water Tour 2023 & 2024 | We are the small boat choice for whale watching in Juneau, Alaska; a personalized experience with only 6 passengers per boat I chose the name Jayleen's Alaska because I want to share with you just that--my experiences and love of the place I have called home my whole life. Having grown up on remote Shelter Island (one mile away from mainland Juneau), I ha

ve 22 years of Alaskan life to share with you. My dad (better known as one of the founders of Harv and Marvs Outback Alaska) Jay Beedle, bought me my first boat when I was 11 years old. This inspired a deep love for the water and captaining boats. At 18 I earned my 50 ton license through the United States Coast Guard and for the last four years I have worked for Harv and Marvs Outback Alaska as a captain on 6, 12 and 18 passenger boats. By choosing to start Jayleen's Alaska I hope to share with each passenger the inspiring landscape and wildlife that is such a huge part of my life. Choose and ride in a custom built 26' Raider--that has a maximum capacity of six. This small size keeps tours personal and flexible. Whether you are a whale enthusiast, a bird watcher or a landscape photographer--we can accommodate your interests and needs. With that said there is a 100% Humpback Whale guarantee included into each reservation made--or your money back! Feel free to contact us via email or phone with any questions or concerns you may still have after perusing the website. I look forward to meeting you out on the water! Sincerely,
Jayleen Beedle

Orcas travel in matriarchal pods, their family - taking care of each other as their babies grow & learn - this care is one of my favorite details about these apex predators of the ocean ♥️

Taken by one of our local photographer guests, Lisa - I was amazed when I saw that she had captured this completely unexpected lunge feed!!
Lunge feeding is a type of surface feeding in which humpback whales will chase small bait fish from the depths up to the surface of the water; using the element of surprise, then lunging quickly (and often unexpectedly) with open mouths through the ball of bait fish 🤩 It is rare; and it is very hard to capture!!
Thank you so much to Lisa for sharing her beautiful photos with us!

Photos taken June 2022

-Our vessel adheres to NOAA Fisheries Alaska Humpback Whale Approach Regulations and does not intentionally approach whales within 100 yards.
-As a proud member of Whale SENSE (whalesense.org), we are committed to responsible whale watching practices. All photos were taken in compliance with established guidelines and regulations.

Going through old photographs has been a recent hobby of mine & it’s amazing the things that have been relearned/discovered thanks to the much more approachable way we catalog humpback whales in this modern age vs when I first started whale watching in 2003!
Long story short; going through some of my Dads old whale photographs from 2011 we helped to discover that our celebrity whale, Flame, had a calf that year that never got properly documented; they are pictured in this photo - isn’t their tail marking unique?? 🤯🥰🤩
We turned our data into and they confirmed that this was proof of a ‘new’ calf 🤩 It has been confirmed that Flame has had 8 calves in her lifetime!! From 2011 to 2024 this mama has been busy. Always grateful to have had the privilege to grow up with these beautiful animals ♥️

Happy Alaska Day!! ✨
Today the Southeast Alaska Whale Watching Association presented $7000 to the ; proceeds from the Locals Day whale watch that was donated by the local whale watching companies May 2024, in an effort to give back to our community ♥️
We learned that with $7000 this will allow the Food Bank to order 10,000 - 12,000 pounds of food; they routinely go through 40,000 pounds of food a week; between food donations & ordering - Alaska is all about community & this feels very Alaskan to me! 😃

Time goes by so fast! So thankful for what every year has taught me, for all the whales I’ve been able experience & for all the amazing people I’ve met along the way ♥️

Meet Sasha 🥰
With her first documented spotting in Hawaii in 1998; she is a local celebrity in Juneau during the summer months ♥️ Not as social or as ‘easy to watch’ as Flame - Sasha has a mind of her own, and that’s part of the reason why we love her so much!
My first memory of Sasha was in 2009 - she liked to spend time in front of my childhood home on Shelter Island & I would take my little skiff out to take photos of her - spending time on a boat around whales has always been my happy place, and that first started with this whale ♥️
She shows her tail 50% of the time; has a tendency to travel long distances between dives & sometimes let’s us wait 10+ minutes for her to surface 😅
She has had at least 3 calves that we know of; and has a reputation for not being a very attentive momma 😆
Sasha is a lunge feeder, breacher, pectoral slapper & a professional at the disappearing act!
If she decides to dive without showing us her fluke most enthusiasts can ID her by the line scars on her right side or the notch in the front of her dorsal fin 🙂
We are a huge fan of this whale & feel so lucky to see her on our tours - have you met Sasha?? 😃😃

Probably my favorite photo of Sasha & taken by my dad, Jay Beedle, Dec 8th, 2009 🥰

Not my best photo of an Orca but I’ve always loved this one - something about how the fin, the mountains & the colors all come together, I think ♥️
SE Alaska is just so beautiful when it wants to be 😃

Meet Riddler! He is one of the few whales that is much easier to identify by his dorsal fin than his tail markings - since he usually chooses to dive without raising his fluke. If you notice, Riddler has a notch taken out of the top of his dorsal fin - making it look like kind of like an M 😄
Riddler is a male who likes to frequent Mexico during the winter months; making him one of only ~3% of our population that migrates to Mexico rather than Hawaii - where ~95% of our whales travel to mate or give birth. Riddler is often seen with Barnacles; who is his bestie ♥️ & he is often the “noise maker” behind our hydrophone videos!
We are big fans of this beautiful whale, have you seen Riddler? 😃

Riddler & Eyelet; hanging out like besties 🐳🐳
We’ve been doing a lot of whale watching in a place called North Pass these past several weeks - a narrow passageway where whales congregate to eat - it is a place where it’s common to see these usually solitary whales surfacing & diving together as they feed on a high density of food under the surface of the water 😋
