What’s the weather like at Machu Picchu? ⛈️ ☀️ ☁️

Weather in mountainous regions can be UNPREDICTABLE, so it’s always a good idea to check the forecast before your visit and to pack layers to prepare for temp changes.

Generally…

Machu Picchu has a milld and temperate climate with temperatures ranging around 50-70* F throughout the year.

Wet/rainy season is Dec-late March.
Dry season is April-October.

🌫️ The frequent FOG of Machu Picchu, offering the mysterious and ethereal ambiance, is formed when warm, moist air from the Amazon basin rises and meets cooler air of the Andes. It actually enhances the site’s allure with a little mystery but it may limit visibility at times. Fog mist and clouds are more likely in the wet season especially in the early morning hours.

‼️ Tip. Choose late morning or afternoon entry to Machu Picchu on circuit 1 or for any hikes where you want to increase your chances of having clear view.

What currency is accepted in Peru? 💵

Nuevo Peruvian Soles and US Dollars are widely accepted in Peru. However, there may be a slight disadvantage when paying with USD. The cost of a product or service could be slightly higher if you pay in USD, although usually not a significant amount. But if you have any doubt, ask before you agree to the terms of payment and know what the up-to-date exchange rate is.

🧳 Should travelers to Peru carry cash, or use credit cards and ATMs? 🏧 All options are available for accessing cash, and paying with credit cards or money while traveling, but which one is best? It’s as safe to carry cash in Peru as it is to carry cash anywhere. We provide detailed guidelines to help you prepare to travel with cash or credit cards. What is the first thing you when you get to Machu Picchu?

➡️Get in line to visit the one and only place you can powder your nose at Machu Picchu.

👍🏻The good news is there ARE bathroom facilities at Machu Picchu (including toilet paper!) Restrooms are provided outside the main entry. You will need to pay 2 soles per person and you can use them as frequently as you want.

✋Here’s the catch. If you exit the park to go during your tour, you will not be allowed to re-enter using the same entry tickets.

🚽 The one and only place to powder your nose is at the main entrance and if you need to use the toilet this is your only chance before you enter Machu Picchu. ***not everyone pictured in the second photo are in line for the bano, but there ARE lines!***

Thank you for the review, Erin!!

“Our family traveled to Peru over spring break— stumbling across Vidal in our planning process was the best possible surprise! He took care of all the details and made our trip so easy- from transportation to tickets to restaurant recommendations, I can not say enough good things. We experienced the local culture in a way we never would have without him. He was so kind, incredibly knowledgeable, and he was WONDERFUL (and patient!) with our kids, keeping them engaged in learning throughout our trip. If I had to do it all over, I would book with Vidal every time with no hesitation.”

❓ Do I need a plug converter for my travels in Peru?

In Peru, the standard voltage is 220v and the plugs and sockets used are if type A and C. If you’re traveling from the USA and depending on the shape of your device’s plug, you may need a plug adapter to fit into the outlets in Peru.

✅ It’s always a good idea to check with your accommodations to ensure you’re prepared with the right adapters and converters. Many hotels in Peru may provide adapters or have outlets that are compatible with a variety of plug types to accommodate international travelers, but it never hurts to be prepared.

⭐️ Pro tip: Bring a short extension cord in case your room has limited outlets

❓Do as I need a tour guide for my trip to ❓

⚠️ The Peruvian government does have a requirement in place for all visitors entering Machu Picchu to do so with a guide. Although tour guides are recommended, it is not being enforced at this time.

Booking a guided tour in advance is extremely valuable for your trip to Peru because of the following:

⭐️ Provides peace of mind. Knowing you will have a booked guided tour in advance allows you to enjoy a hassle-free way to explore the destination.
⭐️ With a guide who is dedicated to you for the day, you will have a more enhanced experience without being rushed or compromising the quality of your guided tour.
⭐️ Professional guides provide insight into history, culture and significance of the destinations listed.
