This based on a 3500 sq ft yard and 2023 LADWP Water Rates.

Hunter Solar Sync is a step down from an advanced WiFi timer but it still works great for ongoing watering adjustments based on rainfall and temperature.

Based on current water rates a professionally installed WiFi timer can pay for itself the first year!!

Being generous with our time is a core value at Groundcare. So volunteering for the CLCA checks off several boxes for us.

In 2023 (left to right) Alex is serving as State Secretary Treasurer, Francisco as San Fernando Valley Chapter President and Ivan as Channel Islands Chapter President.

The CLCA has existed for decades but that doesn’t mean it’ll exist forever. By design the CLCA needs volunteer members in order to exist and to prosper. They do a lot for the landscape contractor. Only in their absence would we realize how much of an impact they make.

Common modern fallacy: best time to conserve water is in the summer. This is false.

Summer is the worst time to try to conserve water because it is when the greatest need exists. In the garden both plants and trees need water to survive. Even well established drought tolerant trees often need watering in the summer for survival.

This chart shows common year-long water usage in the garden. You can see the greatest opportunity for water conservation is during the colder months. Yet, the majority water users fail to make to the correct programming adjustments as the weather changes. Even professionally serviced properties will commonly lag behind in making watering adjustments. If or when they do, they will not reduce watering as much as they can.

There are two main obstacles in the way of water conservation in the garden:
Lack of knowledge
Lack of time

Hydretain was created in 1991. Its origin came out of a great need during a prolonged Australian drought.

Since we began networking with other landscapers around 2014 we heard about the product several times but never tried it.

In the last month we have treated several properties with this product and have noticed its effectiveness.

Hydretain can work on all types of ornamentals including turf grasses. Did you know that at 40 percent reduction of normal watering-needs turf grasses can still survive? In many cases Hydretain can be the difference between healthy or dead plants during drought restrictions.

This oak tree was pruned 2-3 years ago. It was probably trimmed too early in the year and caught fungus. It was easy to tell something was wrong since all oaks on the property had regrown their foliage except for this one. When we onboarded the property about 2 months ago we noticed this along with other plant issues and decided to tag our plant heath care partner.

The tree was treated with a fungicide and a biological stimulants. This week we installed a deep watering system which will help further nurse the tree back to health ⛑🌳

Our team is trained to look for the most common plant pests and diseases so we can report them to our customers and provide healthcare interventions.

Super Proud Moment Alert 🚨

This weekend we were awarded our first ever CLCA Sweepstakes Award from . Our team took home the biggest prize of the night for our project Eagle Mountain Residence which also won 1st place in the Large Residential Build category. This is the first time we have been awarded sweepstakes and it was a totally unexpected thrill to live through. A total of 53 awards were given to amazing landscape contractors and we came home with 4!

We are super proud of ourselves and our incredibly hardworking and talented team. We super grateful to have such incredible customers and amazing business partners. Looking forward to sharing more on this accomplishment in the coming weeks.

Our customer is a popular event venue. They host weddings and studio events among others. So their courtyard lawn area is both a major attraction and functional as a setting. When it’s health begins to decline alarm bells 🚨 go off for everyone. We visited on a non watering day and still found moisture in the ground. We know we can reduce watering slightly and add a gentle lawn fertilizer to their current lawn program. This will help boost its health and better withstand foot traffic wear.

Really excited to take our family today to see Echo Park Forever as part of this years Native Plant Garden Tour. It’s rare for us to be able to take our kids on-site and show them what we do, and how talented our team can be.

We were happy to help care for the garden for 1.5 years until the end of last month. During our time here we learned how to care more for native gardens and were super proud when it was part of the 2022 AD 100 for Landscape Design.
