San Giusto Chianti 2019 third best red wine in the world according to Wine Spectator. This is the wine we drank during our Tuscany Tours, made by Luca, Bettina, Franco and all our friends the Martini di Cigala family..of course Wine Spectator doesn't really understand wines otherwise San Giusto would have gotten first place!!!!

This fantastic Tuscan value comes from a historic property owned by a family whose enduring faith in Sangiovese helped make this bottling Wine Spectator's No. 3 wine of 2019. The editors selected the most exciting wines reviewed this year.

Villa Foscari, known as “La Malcontenta,” is a Palladian villa on the Brenta Riviera Andrea Palladio built it in 1554. The architecture of Villa Foscari is a masterpiece of formal equilibrium: Palladio designed a perfectly symmetrical, three-story, central-plan building. The forms were inspired by a hexastyle Ionic-order temple.

Experts have identified 590 distinct native Italian grape varieties thus far. It is incredible to think that there are likely hundreds of uncatalogued varieties, many of which are known only to local farmers. Grapes were being grown and made into wine in Italy long before the Bronze Age. A large storage jar, located in a cave on Mount Kronio, was found to contain the residue of a wine dating back 6,000 years. The Campania region ( main city being Naples ) is also renowned for ancient grape varieties, showcased in its wines. Many white wines from Campania derive from grapes that were popular during the Roman Empire, such as Fiano and Falanghina, while Greco grapes, as the name suggests, trace their origins to ancient Greece. As for the region’s red wine grapes, Aglianico, which produces the acclaimed Taurasi and Aglianico del Vulture, boasts some of the oldest living vines in Italy, including several planted over 150 years ago that survived the phylloxera epidemic.
