One of the thrills of travel is finding and appreciating unexpected moments. I’ve seen some incredible street performers around the world. But, wow. This gentlemen was mesmerizing. Bravo!
Changing of the Guards - Part 6 (Wellington Barracks)
The last portion of the pomp and circumstance happens at Wellington Barracks when the new guard and band will be coming out to replace the old guard that has just left St James Palace. Each guard is on duty for 48 hours. Therefore, the changing of the guards ceremonies only happens every other day - Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday August through May. During June and July, changing of the guard occurs daily.
Changing of the Guards - Part 5 (Buckingham Palace Chaos)
Crowds for changing of the guard will vary depending on the time of the year. Because it’s February half-term in Europe, there is definitely a crowd. Easter and Christmas are the most popular and busiest times to be here. Locals never recommend viewing the festivities from the Buckingham Palace area because of the amount of people.
Changing of the Guards - Part 4 (Horse Guards)
Changing of the Guard - Part 3 (Leaving St James Palace, walking up The Mall to Buckingham Palace)
Anyone else play in the marching band growing up? These musicians are so incredibly talented and playing this caliber of music in 35 degree weather is no easy task. As you can see in the video, everyone tends to march alongside the band because they move pretty quickly. Try not to get lost, lose your children or trip on the many bumps on the sidewalk.
Quick tidbit...If you don’t want to stand out as a tourist, it is not pronounced “mall” road as in shopping mall in the states. I’m not sure where they got the pronunciation from, but it’s tricky. 😉

Changing of the Guard - Part 2 (St James Palace - the music)
Absolutely incredible performance by the band! Again, they play with their backs toward the public as they are playing for the soldiers in front of them.
Changing of the Guard - Part 1 (St James Palace)
The changing of the guard ceremonies in London is absolutely a must-see for anyone visiting London. The pomp & circumstance and tradition is unlike anywhere else in the world. Until you get here, you don’t realize how many different things are happening simultaneously. Unless you have a plan and know where to go, you’ll miss all of the good stuff.
At St. James Palace, the ceremony begins with the preparation for uniform inspection. Because today is Prince Andrew’s birthday, the drum major is dressed in gold in celebration. The locals weren’t sure if he would be dressed based on the scandal surrounded Prince Andrew in recent weeks.
There are so many benefits of traveling to Europe in the off season. Lower crowds are definitely number one. It also helps to get to main attractions when they open to avoid the coach tours and buses. Stonehenge was incredibly serene and beautiful with only a few other visitors around.
What dreams are made of! One of the most stunning properties that I’ve seen in the world is Le Sirenuse in Positano. The weather in Italy has been spectacular for the month of October. Even though hotels are getting ready to close up next week for the winter, people are still swimming in the water. If you’re thinking of booking a trip to Italy and the Amalfi Coast, now is the time to call to start making plans. These properties are booking for next year.

What do you think about authentic food tours with locals? We had fabulous food and pizza in Naples, but we also had a lot of fun being introduced to some local traditions.
➡️ First, Italian singing. One of our wonderful hostesses was an actress and singer and she loved getting into character.
➡️ Second, a game of Tombola which is Italian Bingo and they use beans as placeholders.
➡️ Third, Italian gestures. Sorry, I didn’t get that on video. I was too busy gesturing. 😬
Wow, what an exciting tour of Naples I experienced today! Here is a great video that I took with our fabulous tour guide so you can hear an Italian explain.
