Should Christians Take Vacation ?
The biblical answer to this question is rooted in the ideas of rest and stewardship. Vacations, or holidays as they are called in some parts of the world, are not mentioned in the Bible, but specific times of rest are discussed, as is stewardship of time and money.
If you think work is good because it is commanded and exemplified by God, then we can be certain that rest or recreation is good as well. God himself rested after creating the heavens and the earth. We are commanded to rest in the fourth commandment (Ex. 20:8-11)
Also Jesus led his disciples for a leisure time, according to Mark 6:31-32
Ecclesiastes 3:13 says “ it is a gift of God,
for every man to be able to eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all their labor”
Several reports claim that Americans work more hours, take fewer vacations, and retire later, than those in any other industrialized country.
Christian travel allows you the opportunity to engage with different cultures, denominations and more.
But unfortunately most Christian families all over the world are always working, and hardly getting any rest or recreational activities in their lives.
Friends, God commands us to rest so that our bodies and minds can be refreshed, enabling us to get back to work.
There’s more to life aside from Bible meetings and church services. A good Christian must know how to create a balance among work, church, and family. Engaging in recreational activities with your family will go a long way in boosting love and bond.
Recreation is necessary for a well-balanced life. Mental health authorities say that balanced living includes work, recreation, companionship, and religion. Therefore time and energy should be apportioned to each of these.
Christians don’t have to go through life being uptight all or most of the time. Quite often, we act like there’s an eleventh commandment that forbids us from having fun as Christians. However, this isn’t the case. Christianity isn’t all about the dull life, there should be time for enjoyment and recreation.
After a weeklong life of stress from finding the means of livelihood and engaging in several church activities, it’s just right that you take some time off to refresh the brain and body with recreational activities. That doesn’t mean you won’t take care of your responsibilities; it’s about taking time off from work to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation and all the great things with which He has blessed us with.
When it comes to engaging in recreational activities, there’s no better company to have than family. Leisure times offer the perfect opportunity for Christian families to bond well and catch up on each other’s life. They’re periods for them to grow more spiritually and physically. It’s no news that when families pray and play together, they get stronger.
