Activist Adam: Hi, I want a good vacation but all my friends and I are SUPER concerned about sustainability and having GREENer options. Are there any options for us?

Travel Agent Thomas: Nope; no options whatsoever!

I’m just joking!

Yes, the industry is changing fast and becoming significantly more sustainable. There’s eco-tours specifically designed to have a low-carbon footprint and dive deeper into sustainability. There are also net-zero resorts all around the world. My favorite way to travel if you are EXTRA conscientious about it is: CRUISES.

Activist Adam: Cruises?!?! & ; They seem like SUCH A WASTE! So much food waste. So much fuel. So much consumption.

Travel Agent Thomas: I get that all of the time, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Cruise lines are extremely good at streamlining everything including food and drink consumption and waste practices. Most modern day ships are converting their old biofuel systems into hybrid engines that save on the ships environmental impact. And, as a group of friends, you have the chance to do it all together without worrying about adding a significant carbon footprint & ;.

Activist Adam: I never thought of that before.

Travel Agent Thomas: Yea, it’s something on the minds of everyone in the industry especially the cruise lines since about 80% of travelers believe that sustainable travel is important.

Activist Adam: I’m surprised you have all of this at your fingerprints like that … I’m very impressed with where the industry is going and cannot wait to travel green!

Did you know?

According to the lastest report by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) on the state of the cruise industry, "Cruises are a top choice for multi-generational travel – with more than 30% of families traveling by cruise with at least two generations and 28% of cruise travelers traveling with three to five generations."

A Catalyst Travel Agent has recently worked with a group leader who wants to get their family together for cruises every year. It is a great way to connect her sister and niece to her two children. Not only do they as a family get to come together, they are are getting the families they know from their kids& #39; schools involved too. Yes, it is a family affair for them, but they are bringing other families together too.

It does not hurt that the kids have their own kids section (safe, fun, and engaging) on the ship and the parents have their own section (pools, music, and ^^NO KIDS^^ at least not any they have to be responsible for).

Real Story From A Travel Agent

I have a close friend who just finished a cookbook from their home country. They are super excited about launching it and taking a select group on a gastro-tour back home as he shows them around all of the "MUST-SEE" destinations and does elevated tastings of the regions BEST dishes. It's been such a fun process to plan out the launch party for his book and dream up the best trip for his friends, family, and contacts.

I've booked trips to Asia before, but this trip will be special. He's an EXPERT in his field. He's going to show people a unique side to his home region that tourists don't normally see (or taste). That's why I LOVE working with group leaders like him. It's a true collaboration with his expertise and mine, as a travel advisor.

I can't wait for people to experience this trip! I think I might actually go on it myself. ;-)
