Quite a low point in "modern" America when something like this was necessary for the safety of black travelers. Tourism has matured in America but we bet that people of color may still not be completely comfortable. Those of us in the tourism industry must not shy away from reporting acts of racism, discrimination, or prejudice. And we must hold ourselves to the highest standards when guiding tourists along America's roadways in order to protect their rights and ensure their safety.

For nearly 30 years, a guide called the "Negro Motorist Green Book" provided African Americans with advice on safe places to eat and sleep when they traveled through the Jim Crow-era United States
