Director Kim Fickett has been a part of the Just for Kix family for 15 years. My journey with the company began as a mom in the bleachers cheering on our girls and supporting their passion. That journey changed when I was asked in 2023 to manage the administrative side of the Hinton Just for Kix program. Outside of Hinton Just for Kix, I am a proud wife and mom of two daughters, and a fur baby. Our oldest daughter has also been a part of the company for 15 years and is a Head Instructor at a fellow program. Our youngest has been dancing for 8 years and is involved in the styles of kick, pom, hip hop, jazz and lyrical. Our family has been a part of 2 Outback Bowl tours, countless Together We Dance competitions, and were selected to be a Just for Kix feature family in the TWD Nationals booklet. I am so honored to be a part of a program that provides a positive and fun learning environment for all, because at Hinton Just for Kix, "Together We Are One." Meet Our Head Instructor
Curtis Jackson is a passionate dance instructor whose journey began at the age of 16 as a member and choreographer for the dance group, All New Krew. By 18, Curtis had transitioned into teaching, initially focusing on hip hop and tap before expanding to embrace all forms of dance. His career highlights include a two-year stint as a back up dancer for various artists, which allowed him to travel and perform widely. Currently in his second year as a head instructor for Hinton Just for Kix, Curtis has led teams to nationals, secured multiple first place finishes, and earned a double platinum finish. Dedicated to mastering his craft, Curtis has studied under some of the industry's greats including Disney choreographer Kenny Ortega, tap legend Savion Glover, and hip hop sensation Matt Steffanina. His talent and versatility have also led him to compete on popular shows like ABDC, SYTYCD, and AGT.

KLEENEX WARNING!!!!

As we embark on the beginning of the 2024-2025 dance performance season in a matter of hours, I had to share this with all of you.
Whether this is your first performance season with Hinton Just for Kix, or whether tonight may mark the first of many lasts to come this year, just remember, it all started when you gave your daughter dance shoes. 🩰

"If you give a girl dance shoes, she will want a tutu to go with it.

"You’ll buy her the best shoes you can find, and then she will probably want to get a pretty leotard and a matching bow too.

"Then, she will probably spend hours begging you to get up off the couch and simply, "dance with me mommy," even though all you may want to do is relax and watch TV. She will insist. And her insistence will win.

"And when a girl gets her official first dance outfit, she will need shoes and tights and a bow to go with it. And a TEAM...

"And then life as you know it will end.

"There will be no more lazy weekends watching TV. You will put more miles on your car running to practices and performances and competitions than you ever thought possible. Every spare minute of your time will be spent hauling your daughter and her crazy friends and all of their dance bags filled with countless costumes, accessories, makeup, and what seems like thousands of bobby bins, to practice for a two and a half minute dance. The DANCE...

"Your house will be a mess. Your car will be left with flakes of window paint that didn't quite wash clean from last weekend's dance competition. All because you gave a girl dance shoes.

"Your weekends will be spent getting bleacher butt after spending hours in a gymnasium going from performance to performance to watch a dance you've seen a hundred times. And her weekends will be spent gaining confidence and friends, all while learning new skills and having fun.

"And you will be there the day she walks onto the floor and shines after being so nervous to dance in front of a crowd, and on that day she nails that turn set, kick combo, and choreo she has worked so hard to perfect. And she will make you SO proud. The other moms will be happy for you but you feel weird saying thank you because it's not you on that dance floor. It's her. She did this.

"And right before your eyes, your little girl will be transformed from the baby who spun around in your living room wearing her tiny leotard, tutu and dance shoes (because she loves attention), into a full fledged dancer.

"When you give a girl dance shoes, you give her more than just the shoes. You give her a sport, and a talent, and hope, and dreams, and friends, a new family, a place to learn about life, room to grow as a person where she can push her limits, and bravery, and courage and LIFE, and memories. And she will have ALL of these things, simply because you gave a girl dance shoes.

"Because you gave a girl dance shoes, you too will develop new, lifelong friendships, developed solely from the same passion for the sport and love of your team. You will root together and have a special bond only few will understand. Because you gave a girl dance shoes.

"Then one day, many years from today… she will be in her room and she will come across an old pair of worn out dance shoes. And she will pick it up and realize instantly that when you gave that girl her dance shoes, you also gave her a childhood that she would never forget. And then she will hug you, and your eyes may leak — because you realize that everything YOU gave up along the way… was worth it!

"All because you gave a girl dance shoes." 🖤💛 🩰

Come on out to the Hinton High Dance Show at 5 p.m., tonight, at Hinton High School. There will be so much talent from area dance studios grace the floor including our own Mini Hip Hop, Middle Jazz and Junior Kix dancers.

Our Wee Lyrical and Jazz dancers are excited to bring all the feels to our Old Fashioned Holiday show at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, at Hinton Community High School.

From their emotional and inspirational lyrical dance to their sassy, high energy jazz dance, they will leave the audience feeling all the emotions come show day. 🥰🥹

🎟️ Tickets at the door are $7 for adults and $5 for students. Children 5 and under are free.

We had so much fun trunk or treating with the upper elementary students and I especially loved seeing our dancers and their classmates in their Halloween costumes! Our Story

Hinton Just For Kix: As an established youth dance program, Just For Kix is a leader in dance instruction. The Hinton Just For Kix program is just one of the 200 plus programs Just For Kix has in 14 states. Every dancer with Hinton Just For Kix program will be given the opportunity to excel with the new skills and techniques they learn at class. Dance styles that the Hinton Just For Kix program offers are kick, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop and other special sessions. Dancers ages 3 to 18 years may join at any time. Meet the Director: Bree Vonheeder is the Hinton, IA Just For Kix Program Director. Bree has over 20 years of dance experience that includes dance technique, performing, choreography, judging, and coaching. Bree is a graduate from Hinton High School where she was a member of the Hinton High School Dance Team for 4 years and captain for 3 years. She was also a member of the Iowa Western Sapphires Dance Team at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, IA. She was also a Lady Bandit dancer for the Sioux City Bandits Indoor Football Team. Bree is excited to share her passion of dance with the Hinton Just For Kix program and the Hinton community.
