ASI coming together for all who served!

Veterans Day (originally known as Armistice Day) is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces. It coincides with other holidays including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day which are celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I.
Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918
when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. At the urging of major US veteran organizations, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

Veterans Day is distinct from Memorial Day, a US public holiday in May. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all US military veterans,
while Memorial Day honors those who have died while in military service.
Another military holiday that also occurs in May, Armed Forces Day, honors those currently serving in the US military.
Additionally, Women Veterans Day is recognized by a growing number of US states that specifically honor women who have served in the US military.

Rosh Hashanah
is a religious and festive time in the Jewish when family and friends gather together for meals and worship and grow closer to God. It’s a time for looking forward to a new year with anticipation and reflecting on the past year to improve ourselves for the next.
This two-day Jewish celebration of the New Year literally translates to “head of the year” in Hebrew. It is observed on the first and second days of the Jewish month of Tishrei, the first month in the civil calendar. In 2022, it begins on Monday, September 26, and ends at sundown, Tuesday, September 27.

As September 11, 2001, becomes a distant memory, history is still being made each day by all of us. By the way we live our lives. By the way we conduct ourselves in difficult times. By how willing we are to put the needs of others before our own. By how well we love each other. 9/11 is forever engraved in our history. But how we respond to its impact is still being written, 21 years later. Now it is our history to make. #911

Having the first Monday in September off from work was significant for American workers in 1894, when Labor Day was declared a national holiday. Working conditions in the country’s factories, railroads, mills, and mines were grim. Employees, including many children, were often required to work 12 hours a day, six days a week, in crowded, poorly ventilated spaces. Supervision was harsh and punishments were handed out to those who talked or sang as they worked.
Calls for shorter workdays and better conditions came from worker strikes and rallies in the decades after the Civil War.
On Sept. 5, 1882, union leaders in New York City organized what’s thought to be the first Labor Day parade.

In 1863, during the American Civil War, Pres. Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which declared more than three million slaves living in the Confederate states to be free. More than two years would pass, however, before the news reached African Americans living in Texas. It was not until Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, that the state’s residents finally learned that slavery had been abolished. The former slaves immediately began to celebrate with prayer, feasting, song, and dance. As a result, the holiday Juneteenth commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, observed annually on June 19. Social Media Challenge:

Cinco de mayo is a famous celebration observed on May 5th every year in commemoration of Mexico’s remarkable victory over the French at the legendary Battle of Puebla in 1862. The Mexican Army’s victorious outcome of the battle was thanks to General Ignacio Zaragoza, who ironically died months after the battle due to illness. Although often mistaken for the Day of the Dead or the Mexican Independence Day – celebrated on September 16, Cinco de mayo is in fact a date that has become associated with the celebration of Mexican-American culture. These celebrations began in California, where they have been observed annually since 1863, but gained popularity across the USA in the 1980s mainly thanks to commercial advertising campaigns for drinks.
