How Grams Cabins came to be....

Back in the late 1930’s, my Grandfather, Frank Malovic, came up to the Valley with some boyhood friends to fish and fell in love with the area. Shortly thereafter, WWII commenced and he was stationed at Rackheath AFB near Norwich England. There, outside a Pub, he met the most beautiful lady in the world, my Grandmother, Lorna Baxter. They had a whirlwind courtship

amongst the buzz bombs and air raid sirens and after the war ended they settled down in Cleveland, OH where Frank became a Draftsman and schoolteacher and Gram was a full time Mum to my father, Michael. The love that my Grandfather had for the Madawaska Valley prompted him to buy land from Annie and Warner Mayhew post war and he proceeded to build the Point as a place for the family to enjoy in the summer. One cottage led to another, then another and soon they were renting out the cottages to friends and their families so they too could see the beauty of the Valley. Sadly, Grandpa passed away in 1974 and my Gram continued to rent and manage their special place that they both loved. That love was passed on to me as I spent every summer up here with her ‘helping’ with laundry and cleaning cottages. Now that my beloved Gram has gone to be with Grandpa, and in August 2020 my incredible father, Michael, joined them, so with joy I carry on the tradition of sharing our happiest and most beautiful place on earth: Grams Cabins. We made a few changes since 1955: baseboard heating, indoor facilities, comfy pillow top beds and some appliances have changed but the magnificent view has not. So, I hope you enjoy your visit as much as I enjoy sharing this peaceful place that allows you to step back in time, listen to the loons, fish a little, walk slow, have a cup of tea and relax.

PS: Why the name? Because no matter who you were, when you would meet her, Gram would always say: “So lovely to meet you, please, just call me Gram.” Its always been her place...and always will be....
