About Us

Welcome!

Alaska Humpback Adventures is operated and locally owned by the Olmstead Family. We are passionate about whales, wildlife and people. My wife, Janet, and I have been married for 31 years. We have seven children and two grandchildren. Three of our children are Alaskan Native Tlingit Indians. (Our logo is in honor of the Native people of Southeast Alaska.) We currently live off-grid on a remote island nine miles from Auke Bay, where your Juneau whale tour begins. Janet moved to Juneau in 1965 with her parents and nine siblings. Her love for God and Alaska captured my heart! We hope to have the opportunity to share with you our love and joy for this amazing place we call home.

I have boated for over 45 years, 31 of those in the waters of Southeast Alaska. I earned my 50 ton license through the United States Coast Guard in 2007. For many years, I have been known as “Captain Steve” of Harv and Marv's Outback Alaska. While it has been an honor to work for Harv and Marv's, Janet and I believe it is time to offer our own personalized and unique whale watching experience.

In the safety and comfort of our 26’ Hewescraft, six-passenger boat, we explore the protected waters near Juneau and discover the spectacular beauty, abundant wildlife, and inspiring wonder of one of the most majestic and graceful creatures on this planet, humpback whales. Our desire is to offer a whale watching experience that is fun, safe, and exciting, as well as enriching and educational, providing memories of a lifetime! We operate with great care and respect for the whales and other wildlife we are privileged to encounter.
